You aren’t missing anything by not reading 30 Days of Night. In fact, I’m just going to go ahead and strongly recommend that you don’t ever bother–and anyone else who hasn’t read it, don’t you bother either. It’s terrible. It is so horribly bad that it actually made me extremely angry that I had wasted $15 on it. Even Ben Templesmith’s art wasn’t enough to save that turd.

Yeah, based on my memory of Aztek (I think I downloaded it early 2007) the alternating-issues thing was obvious enough that I picked up on it without knowing ahead of time.

Incidentally, I like “breathlessly long sentences” fairly well, but I’m still searching for the best way to describe how Millar’s characters talk. It seems like one could almost come up with a diagram/formula for a typical Millar sentence (I think more than anything this is the issue I take with his writing.)

Yeah, I was thinking that, too, Omar, when I re-read the trade recently, which makes me appreciate how Morrison usually is not a cynical writer, which I heartily appreciate.

With Aztek’s second half. you can really spot the scripters for each issue. (Morrison and Millar were switch-hitting on plot and script, apparently.) The pace of dialogue and the basic attitude of the stories is quite different. You can certainly work out, for instance, that Millar scripted #8 and #10 — the characters use his trademark style of breathlessly long sentences and off-the-cuff cynicism rather often, for instance.
