To sum up: Yes, it's kind of sad that Internet nerds feel like they've got a personal stake in the works of Marvel and DC, but realistically speaking, Marvel and DC have spent so long telling them that exact thing that it's only to be expected. Marvel and DC have made their bed, now let them lie in it.

Did I get that right, or am I just a little too punchy here?

On a certain level, I envy people who take to the internet with pretend slings and pretend arrows to throw at people they donâ€™t know over decisions theyâ€™re jerking their knees at, because Iâ€™ve never been able to work up that kind of enthusiasm about anything.

I think you've made a mistake there - they are throwing pretend arrows, but those firing them think they are real.
And in extreme cases that's pretty sad.
