If it makes ya feel better, I misspelled my own last name on my previous post.
And, I'm quite used to people being ashamed of thinking H/S is good, or, even worse, being SURPRISED that it doesn't suck. S'all right. Jerks. :)

My dad was with me, so any side trip was pretty tenuous. I'm not sure how I managed to get him over Half Priced Books for two hours. So Ninja Pirate, Austin Comics and Books, and any of the ones I saw in the Yellow Pages that had a disturbing amount of usage of words like "Fantasy" or "Dragon" got ignored. Comics and Books is on the same street as Half Price, but I was more interested in HPB than in a comics shop, since we have a rather lot of those in my area now.

As far as being ashamed of liking Hack/Slash, you know that I'm mostly kidding with these reviews, right? I joke with you! I mean, I am vaguely embarassed, but not to the level I may have led some of you. Although really, JKosto, does hard work mitigate something being crap, or (in Hack/Slash's case), not being anything more than fun genre stuff? I mean, most of this is my hangups; I was a lit major who never read or liked much literature, and that's a self loathing I'll carry with me for awhile, I bet. But... knucklehumps. I ran out of steam there and just threw in an amusing compound word, I'm sorry.

Also, my typos never fail to shame me, I just don't care enough to try and prevent them.

Hack/Slash is one of my favorite books. There should be no loss of reputation for someone stating that they enjoy something that someone else is working their ass off on. I LOVE IT!

How about a little love for all the other shops in Austin like the Ninja Pirate. We may only have 2000 trades but we often stock the trades that Austin Books is either out or just somehow did not stock.

The Summer Blonde Collection of the later Optic Nerve work is worth checking out, and is my favorite of all his work...he was pretty young when the content of 32 stories originally came out, as well as the early Optic Nerve stuff, he was in high school when a lot of 32 stories originally were self made 'zines.

"Tomine’s stories always seem to be pretty half-baked, the sort of thing a first year Creative Writing student who just discovered Carver would write, coupled with - and carried by - incredibly accomplished draftsmanship."

Yeah when the first few issues of Optic Nerve came out, he would have been in college (if he went to college, i dunno)...kind of a victim of his own early success.

Austin B&C is great, but no love for us over at Dragon's Lair?

Glad you had fun on your Austin trip. I love this city so much, I'm glad when anyone else thinks it's as awesome as I do.

For shame, Brad. For shame.

In town and no head's up? Lame. Wedding? Whatever. At least you went to Half Price Books. That's good. If it's as big as you say it was, you went to the one on N. Lamar. The one on S. Lamar also has a really good TPB/graphic novel selection.

Really should've swung by Austin Books and Comics though.

Also, you could've had free tickets to a show I directed for the first time Saturday night. That's right! I just did a self-promoting plug!

Anyway, yes, Austin good.

I'm always tempted to pick up Hack/Slash, but never managed to get myself to do so yet.

Half Price is swell. We've had the Onion here for a year or two. I almost forget how novel that was at first.

If you didn't visit Austin Books and Comics you missed out on one of the best shops in the country. They are doing a massive renovation currently, so the back issue stock is in hiding, but the graphic novel section alone would make you faint. If it's in print, they have it.

I love Hack/Slash. Not sure why you'd lose credibility over saying that.
Then again, I don't understand what the big deal is about Final Crisis. I just don't think Final Crisis is a very well told story. Lots of interesting concepts, sure, but nothing much else grabs my fancy in it.
