Sounds like he doesnâ€™t have that much of an allegiance to any particular comics brand. He just seems to prefer reading over doing anything else on a long trip.

Don't they realise they are supposed to pick a company and stick to them, regardless of the quality of their material, or that of their competitors.
It's like his reading anything he wants to, as opposed to letting whoever sent it to the printers get in the way!

Kobe Bryant plays basketball right? Not football? It's an honest question, as I don't really follow either, although I could tell you career stats on guys like Ken Wregget throughout the 90s (that's hockey, btw).

Heh, I'd bet that there's a message board out there somewhere trashing Kobe for being "so mainstream" in his selection and wondering why the shop owner didn't push a ton of indie TPBs at him. Funny how Kobe and Shaq are / were both comics fans, considering how much they hate each other now.

Yeah, besides Joe's point, that's another thing that makes the story interesting to me - the sheer "what the heck just happened?" nature of having Kobe Bryant stop by your comic shop to buy comics.

Outside of his mother or a friend making small talk, I can't imagine there was one person in the world asking that question.

Itâ€™s not really that awesome. Itâ€™s more of another sad reminder of the inferiority complex the comics community had. You wouldnâ€™t see Publisherâ€™s Weekly creaming themselves if Kobe had gone to Barnes & Noble just before he left.

It's more cult of celebrity than inferiority complex. There were similar articles about Kobe attending some of the Olympic soccer matches (and specifically getting cheap seats to mix in with the real fans.)
