I read the first arc of this title in single issues and yeah, Lynch does a great job with the character's voices and dialog in general. However, the art is beyond atrocious. Reading it, I frequently wasn't sure who certain characters were supposed to be, or where scenes were taking place.

That said, I was willing to put up with the art at first. However, by the end of the first arc, Lynch's story was becoming a bit too fanfic-ish. Every single character ever was returning! It was getting ridiculous. I'm sure the story might've worked in the end since Lynch is a solid writer, but between that and the awful art, I had to drop it.

Also, sorry, but I disagree on the idea that Angel needed an ongoing series. Yes, the series was cancelled instead of being allowed to go off the air when it chose, but it a very finite ending. Angel rejects the Shanshu prophecy and makes his big move against Wolfram & Heart, which probably ended up killing the entire cast (granted, off-screen). The whole idea of the series was always that redemption is never over and the war is never won, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't keep fighting. And that's what the finale showed: Angel and Co. going down swinging. It was true to the show. Buffy got the happy ending, Angel got the downer one, both fitting their shows' tones. Neither one needed an extra season in comic book form. (Yeah, I don't love Buffy season 8 either, except for Vaughan's arc with Faith and Giles).
