With the announcement of X-Men: Noir from Marvel, we finally know what those mysterious/ubiquitous X-Men ads in the Marvel comics are all about.

how was it a mystery?
cyclops in sin city, jean in sin city, wolverine and nightcrawler in chiaroscuro and some hammett prose..
“oh noir xmen”

It was a mystery when there were just two ads up, which was when we were all discussing it.

Kind of appropriate that you were talking Amalgam comics earlier, as this sounds like a Marvel/Dark Horse merger… I like the idea… If I had more cash to spend, I’d probably get it… As is, (and I know it’s a cop-out) I think I’ll wait for the trade… But I WILL keep an eye out for it…

Looks interesting enough to be the only X-Book that I pick up. Hopefully Van Lente can spin a crime comic as good as Brubaker.

I’d rather read FVL doing Sin City than Frank Miller, I think.

They should have lead with this story at the Diamond conference rather than “Dark Reign”. This actually sounds interesting, especially since they don’t have powers – it’s just the characters themselves.

This is one of those all-too-geeky projects that sounds like it’s going to get past my armor of cynicism and make me read it. :)

X-Men+Film Noir=sign me up!

This sounds like it could be very cool, and a lot of fun. I’m excited.

Think Peter David, writer of noirish Madrox and X-Factor is punching a wall somewhere? They’re even using his artist for this.

I guess they just wanted to keep the pun level down.

It’s interesting that the article is only about X-Men Noir and doesn’t even mention the Daredevil and Spider-Man books…

This could actually be fun.

ahh, okay. but to be honest, when I saw those, after someone pointed out the red glasses meaning cyclops it seemed like the only thing it could be.

Van Lente’s Hercules and the noirish X-Factor are the only two comics currently on my pull list. So I’m probably going to love this. Stoked!

Well you are ridiculously awesome then. Congrats.

yeah, I think Joe Rice is dead-on as to why Brube is writing this and not Peter David. In the past few years David seems so unable to hold back on his fairly silly sense of humor, even in fairly taut scenes, that it just gets really hard for me to care about anything he’s writing about. This isn’t a problem I have with Brubaker, even when he’s writing about far less worthy material like Vulcan.

Seriously, do not apologize for buying trades instead of singles. You don’t owe anything to Marvel. (Well, I don’t know if you do or not, but I’m guessing that you probably don’t.)

There are very few comics I read in single issue form anymore – they seem like a bit of a ripoff most of the time. I don’t mind decompressed storytelling as much as some people, but in singles it’s unbearable – I get an incomplete and incoherent fragment of story, every month or so. No thanks.

Brubaker’s not writing it, Lynxara. Van Lente- who isn’t really known as a deadly serious noir writer, but is known for being awesome- is.

OH, BITCHY SNARK! HOW ORIGINAL!
I’m so very sorry for having an opinion. this was an announcement that didn’t need to be made, kinda like yours.

Van Lente? Hrm.

Awesome? Eh, I dunno. Van Lente excels at light comedy but as a result of the bulk of his work has a certain “disposable” feeling to it. He’s yet to write anything I want on my bookshelf or even want to read twice, although I have certainly passed pleasant times with his stories before.

Now, something I have noticed is that Van Lente tends to fixate on gimmicks as hooks to hang stories on, whether he’s doing something relatively serious or silly. This actually puts X-Men: Noir right up his proverbial alley.

Nah, you were publicly announcing your total awesometude at having deduced this before the rest of us. I just wanted to concur that you are indeed awesomeful.

Idea: get your own blog, go there, and don’t make all the announcements you want.
