Great book. I never much liked Bug Guy and Rusty the Boy Robot TBH. It just felt like a chore in comparison to the glee of Hard Boiled.

Year One is just perfection.

Yeah, as far as I'm concerned the best work of Miller's when collaborating with another artist is the stuff he's done with Darrow (any love for Big Guy and Rusty out there?).
Mazzucchelli on Year One is a middle-distance second, and none of the stuff he's done with anybody else even comes close.

(which is why The Last Action Hero, despite its many flaws, is an underrated movie).

I've been trying to tell people this for years. The point of this movie was missed by almost every major reviewer. The entire movie is a commentary on Hollywood.

Plus the Schwarzenegger as Hamlet sequence is fantastic.

Oh, and great review of Hard Boiled. Violence is entertaining. That's why the Romans liked to watch lions eat people.

Great writeup man. This is a KEY book! It begs to be owned! I have the issues and the trade. If you're REALLY into Geof's art, look for the BIG DAMN HARD BOILED which is an oversized tpb in B&W.

FYI - I know the guy who owns the splash pg where Nixon is getting blown up in the air. Unreal piece!

This is probably one of my favorite Miller written series. Maybe only the various Martha Washington books top them.

That's an interesting comparison, in that both Showgirls and Hard Boiled were helmed by creators -Verhoeven and Miller respectively- whose self-awareness and sense of satire tend to inspire intense debate.

I feel a similar way about Showgirls.

I think it's the greatest depiction of the dark/real side of the 'American dream' I've ever seen.

Some people just see a really bad film with lots of tits.
