A friend picked up The Country Nurse for me at SDCC so I've had it for a month or so already. Clearly this triology stands out as one of my favorite series of the past decade. Lemire's inky artwork is so expressive and energetic. And you are so right in giving him credits for "showing, not telling" and letting the pictures speak louder than words. I wish more folks did this.

It is, and I'm surprised it falls to me to mention this, a perfectly cromulent word.

Huh, I actually quite like Campbell's lettering, it fits the art I think. Tales from the Farm was one of my favorite GN's last year, especially the first one. I'm looking forward to the third installment.

Agree with you completely on Tales from the Farm - brilliant book. I look forward to the two sequels.

I love Eddie Campbell's art, but he is one of the worst letterers I've ever seen. From Hell would have vastly benefited from, well, just about anybody else lettering it. I understand that Todd Klein can't letter everything, but, man that is some terrible lettering in the samples you show here. (The art does look fantastic otherwise, though.)

This has kept from reading other books by Campbell. The lettering seriously detracts from the work, which is too bad, considering how darn good his art always looks, and how interesting the stories usually sound. I may pick this new one up anyway - I haven't decided yet.

That would be JEBEDIAH Springfield and thanks for the GN reviews (even if I only read the final paragraph of every review to find out whether you liked it). I just put two of the Lemire volumes on hold and the library finally got Too Cool in. Tricked and BOP were so good that I'm gonna read Too Cool despite the gist of nearly every review saying " it's good but has problems."

It's a Simpsons joke, R. J. The statue of Jeremiah Springfield has a plaque on it that reads "The noble spirit embiggens the smallest man." I just find the word humorous.

What kind of word is "embiggen"? Is that like when people mean "rejuvenated" but say "youthened"?
