Greg: I’m looking forward to that Ytahq book, too. I’ll have to check it out.

And hope that they publish Arleston's "Trolls of Troy" series. The concept? Asterix with men-eating trolls! Brilliant series!

Best,
Hunter (Pedro Bouça)

I agree re: Talisman being tacked on...further, it didn't fit in context of the series (of course, the main series ignores Hercules killing the skrull's god....)...Hercules had the mythology aspect in depth...put PAD tries to glom onto it in a ham handed uncessary way that served no real purpose for both She-Hulk and X-Factor (I suppose it set up a running joke in X-Factor, but that's about it).

I recently read the first Ambush Bug series for the first time. I just thought I'd point out that this one is, too!

Oh, and for the Ambush Bug thing, ALL Ambush Bug series are like that! Get an old issue on your comic shop if you doubt me.

That's not everyone's cup of tea, of course, but there you go.

Best,
Hunter (Pedro Bouça)

The Soleil Samurai book is the weakest of the bunch. Save your money for the other books!

The just-solicited Ythaq book will be the first Arleston ever to be published in the US (as far as I know). Arleston writes incredibly funny action-adventure comics tailor-made for the same audience that typically reads super-heroes. I look forward to see how well he does on the US!

I do wonder why Soleil kept its big sellers (like most Arleston books) in reserve and went mostly with his more "adult" stuff (like UW1), though.

Hey Greg, just for the record: Doug only lettered the "normal" pages in WASTELAND #20. The "myth" pages were all designed by me, so any complaint about legibility should be thrown in my direction. Doug's blameless :)

The Super-Skrull story was a decent story within the context of what David is doing, but the Talisman thing felt tacked on.

Michael: Yeah, I forgot there's another Dr. Mid-Nite. Whoops! How about an older character mentoring a younger one? Does that work?

I liked what David did, but I didn't like the fact that the Secret Invasion part felt tacked on. That's what I mean.

Two things: First, Dr. Mid-Nite is a legacy character too, unless they brought back Charlie McNider and nobody told me.

Second, I like that David went and made his Secret Invasion tie-ins about the characters rather than about the crossover. Yes, it doesn't affect the main series, but if I cared about that, I'd be reading the main series. I'm reading She-Hulk, and I want a story that affects She-Hulk and the people around her (in this case, Jazinda). I got that, so I'm happy.

I guess that Rockwell song is a bit easy ...

What was so great about the Iron Fist book? I mean, it's not bad, but it's just a pulp story that uses all the stereotypes of the genre and ends with absolutely no surprises. I'll admit, Northlanders isn't that surprising either, and Wood pulls back a bit on what made the first eight issues so good and just lets his Vikings go nuts, but to say the Iron Fist book is "by far" the best book of the week is odd. Why did you love it so much? That's fine if you do, but I'm curious as to why.

That's what I said at my shop too, Alan. The owner showed me both covers, and I said, I have to get that one!

Dan Bailey: You should pick up the Incredible Hercules issues you skipped, they were really great fun and probably the best arc of the whole Secret Invasion story (or maybe tied with the Captain Britain MI-13 arc). Even if you are not into Secret Invasion, the SI aspect of the story does not derail the quality of the book. If you enjoy the madcap adventures of Herc and Cho, you will enjoy the arc. If you are not a fan of SI's "silliness", you may enjoy Herc putting the smackdown on the "He" of "He loves you."

"Can't find your butt/ass/arse/fanny/bum/etc. with both hands" just means one is so completely inept as to not be able to locate their own posterior with the judicious use of both fingered appendages.

As for buying tie-ins to Secret Invasion and not actually buying Secret Invasion itself, well, I'm buying SI: Thor because it's more Fraction-y Thor, which is always good.

Re: Zorro "This has two covers, but I had to get the Diego-As-Fop cover!"

My feelings exactly, and very close to my exact words at the LCS. The variant cover is more action, just as Zorro is meant to be, but how many times in life is one going to get the opportunity to see cover art of poetry reading Don Diego de la Vega?

With an umbrella no less! Brilliant, Wagner!

From Moonstone this week came the Zorro prose anthology book. More than a dozen Zorro stories with one illustration for each story (I think. I don't have it handy.).

Otherwise, I had to *sigh* skip your I KILL GIANTS review because my LCS of course didn't get it. I think they only just now got in #2, which I'd already ordered from heavyink.com. I'll be doing the same with #3, as this is one of my favorite titles these days.

You're right, of course, about the Secret War silliness. I've mentioned before that its intrusion made me temporarily drop INCREDIBLE HERCULES (though I did go back & buy the post-Skull most recent issue after your review last week told me it was safe to do so ... glad I did), & I've done the same with MS. MARVEL. Off the top of my head, I think those are the only 3 somewhat mainstream Marvel Universe titles I ever buy, anyway.

MARVEL. Off the top of my head, I think those are the only 3 somewhat mainstream Marvel Universe titles I ever buy, anyway.
