I did not think that people liked Rogue that much

Wow, Cyclops has really come up in the world, hasn't he? I suppose Marvel's doing its job pretty well in that regard.
I'm sorry I missed this poll. My first place vote for Forge would've brought him up a few places in the rankings, and maybe, just maybe Maggott would have made the top 20? Alas, alack.

Psylocke and Cyclops had a brief flirtation going on for a while, correct? Wouldn't that mean there are 4 hot telepaths and 3 have been attracted to Mr. Summers? Maybe that's HIS secondary mutation.

Who knows what other skeletons lie in Prof X's closet!

Huh, the #1 and #3 picks aren't even appearing in any of the main titles.
Carey's ragtag group of "losers" must've been a huge hit with the fans.

Wow. What a weird list. It seems that I missed a lot by not reading most X comics since 1992. A third of the X-men listed I hadn't heard of, and another third I knew of only as villains and had no idea they'd ever joined the team. Popularities (at least among the pals who hang out on this one forum) have really shifted as well. I can understand the Liefeld/Lee characters losing popularity, but Longshot is below Mimic? Ouch! When did the Beast get so popular? When did Professor X get so unpopular?
Have the X-men ever had any villains who DIDN'T eventually join the team? (Rogue, Magneto, Sabretooth, Juggernaut, Mystique, Emma Frost, etc. etc. etc...) The JLA doesn't do that. If the JLA were like the X-Men, the current line-up would be Starro, Ivo, Amazo and Despero (sounds like the Marx Brothers, doesn't it?) Actually, that would be a really fun book.
Were there any X-Men who didn't even make the top 50? The only one I can think of Changeling-as-Professor-X, but that's dating myself, isn't it?

I don't recall Sage or Maggot being on there. ;-j
Also, wasn't Red Tornado technically a villain when he first appeared? He eventually joined the JLA.

Sage was #32, but, yeah, Maggott got the shaft.

The only surprises for me were Wolverine's low placing, Cargill making the list at all and Rogue taking home the gold.
I love Rogue though and I'd much rather see her get it than Cyclops

Colossus should be way higher.
Like, Top 3 higher.
But I didn't vote, so I honestly don't really get to have an opinion.

he could still get the full set, the whole born in an alternate future thing means that Racheal is not legally his Daughter

I'm more surprised by Iceman being 3rd than by Rogue being 1st.
Wolverine's low place is so obviously a case of Internet bias. Internet people must be cooler and snarkier than ordinary mortals, and one of the ways they show that is by rejecting something everybody else seems to love.

iceman is third becuase a lot of people have childhood memories of amazing friends, it was my introduction to marvel and to the x-men

I think the biggest upset was Prof X being so low. Iceman's popularity is a suprise to me too.

I liked it better when Nightcrawler won.
For comparison: First Top 50 X-Men Poll
1) Nightcrawler (Yay!)
2) Rogue
3) Kitty Pryde
Comics Should Be Good's Top 50 Characters (X-men Division)
1) Wolverine (# 7 overall)
2) Cyclops (# 10 overall)
3) Nightcrawler (Yay!) (# 12 overall)
Current Poll:
1) Rouge
2) Cyclops
3) Iceman
6) Nightcrawler.
I take this as definitive proof that X-men fans are getting progressively stupider.

Do note that the middle one had over 500 ballots cast, while the first one had less than 100 and the most recent one had about 210.

Yeah, what's interesting about this poll is that the guy carrying two (or, realistically, four or five) books by himself is seventh. The number one pick hasn't been able to keep a book going for more than a year. Two through five are four members of the five man squad that got the original run effectively cancelled when even pre-Miller's Daredevil was still around.
Madness!.

Was Multiple Man even on there? he's my favorite, and i didnt' see him.....

I don't even know how to respond to most of that, don't get me wrong, the X-books have been complete trash for quite some time now, armors, pixies, Wolverine clones (because marvel didn't learn it's lesson about clones)
second mutations...
Honestly it's bad enough that there are only 10 people in the world who realize that Jean Grey was never the phoenix in the first place.
Sorry, not the place for all that.
Anyway yeah the rankings were really messed up, while I don't agree with the top characters, at least they've stood the test of time, these are characters that deserve the spotlight, even if they've been poorly written for the last 15 years or so.

Yeah. 1993. That was a great year for the X-men. No! Marvel in general!
(OK. I'm joking and all, but that was actually painful to type. I had these involuntary muscle spams every third letter and had to stifle the vomit reflex. Like my body was physically rejecting what I was typing.
My body is pretty smart.)

"Who knows what other skeletons lie in Prof X’s closet!"
That's disgusting! I'll buy two copies.
"he could still get the full set, the whole born in an alternate future thing means that Racheal is not legally his Daughter."
That's really disgusting! I'll buy ten copies and its variants.
"Honestly it’s bad enough that there are only 10 people in the world who realize that Jean Grey was never the phoenix in the first place."
I think everyone knows that, but don't really care because a.) The original intent of the story was for it to be Jean Grey until later retconned b.) After the Inferno saga she gained the memories of the Phoenix "copy" anyways and c.) Morrison essentially retconned the retcon with the whole Phoenix egg/ White Hot room concept.

X-Men in the Top Marvel characters countdown.
1. Wolverine
2. Cyclops
3. Nightcrawler
4. Magneto
5. Beast
6. Kitty Pryde
7. Jean Grey
8. Emma Frost
9. Storm
10. Colossus
11. Rogue
12. Gambit
13. Iceman
14. Angel
15. Cable
16. Havok
17. Psylocke
18. Cannonball
19. Professor X
20. Longshot
This one makes so much more sense. I guess Wolverine makes a much better Avenger than an X-Man.

They need to reboot/relaunch Spider-Man cause he's married, but they won't do the same to X-Men, which has become to repetitive and convoluted to the point where the average non-fan has no freaking clue as to what's going on? Ugh.

How about a "Worst/most hated" or "bottom 50" X-Men? I'd bet Gambit would rank at least as high (or whatever), on that as he did on this one.

Man, I wish I hadn't read that Kitty is supposed to be dead now; I only just ordered volume 4 of "Astonishing" and had no idea. How sad.

"if there is grass on the field, then play on!"
Either this is what I think it is, or it's a sign of my altogether screwed up worldview.
Nice write up on each and every one. Man if only my sense of humor was as sharp.
Still, didn't expect the top one. But I didn't vote too, so alas, I have no say.

It's a weird list, but I think I figured out why when I made my post above - 'cause I said I'd have given Forge a first-place vote, and implied that I'd give Maggot second place.
Honestly Jean Grey would be my favorite X-Man, Forge would be second, and I couldn't really honestly rate Maggott above 6th or so -- but because I figure other people won't vote for these guys, I'd place them higher on my list. I think a lot of people probably did this. People vote for their favorite underdogs. Especially X-Men, 'cause the X-Men are all about underdogs.
That's why Cargill's here, it's why Cecilia Reyes is so high, and it's why the top-seller is only 7th -- everybody loves Wolvie, but it's not cool to vote for him because it's too bloody typical.
