To many "girl"s in his character's dialogue. THat little tick is driving me crazy. Still I'm not a big fan of what's going on. The changes just feel to different. And I wish they'd have thrown some sort of explanation of Sue in there at some point, a simple "Hydra used some of Psychoman's stolen tech on Sue and created a variation on her Malice persona."

is it just me, or is Claremont maybe getting his groove back a little?

I thought this a couple of times in X-treme X-men - a couple of times in those moments he was left to do his own thing, he did good. He also wrote the best tie in to Morrison's X-World with his 'Intifada' arc.

Honostly he seems to write pretty decent stories once you get him away from his pet characters Psylocke and Sage. Its when the story turns back to one of them that he starts to drag again

I'd add Storm and Rogue to that list. (And we'll call the list 'Characters who haven't been vaguely interesting in years')

Okay... I had completely lost hope, completely given it up, surrendered to the winds of change and all of that, and it's taken me a lot to even consider this, but... is it just me, or is Claremont maybe getting his groove back a little? Like, he still writes for teenagers, uses too many cliches and too much melodrama to appeal to the increasingly adult comics readership... but I feel like there's more life in his stories, for the past few months, than there has been in years. GeNext is actually pretty good. I haven't bought any of his books for ages, but occasionally I check out the previews, just to see how he's doing, and I've been surprisingly impressed lately. Not gonna start picking up his books, but I'd say it'd be good for teens. Anyone else seeing this?

This is an exception to the rule when it comes to New Exiles comics, in that it's the first one I can remember you recommending in a long time, but really, Brian, why are you still reading Claremont comics in 2008?

Do you get comps or something? His work desecended into self-parody years ago. Hell, even this issue seems to have its share of mind control/possession (albeit in a backstory).

BWS and Paul Smith are probably my all-time favourite X-men artists. And the two issues you referenced are among Claremont's very best. Especially #205. So I might just mosey onto ebay and check this one out!

I remember thinking that Paul Smith's work, lacking in detail and backgrounds, was a letdown from earlier "X-Men" artists. Now he's mentioned in the same breath as BARRY Smith.

Exiles lasted 100 issues before New Exiles came out - and this group of Exiles really is pretty darn new, as only Sabretooth and Morph were ever on previous Exiles teams (well, Psylocke, too, but she JUST got there).

The book actually launched in 2000, but yes, it is rather silly to run it that way. Then again, New Avengers is a silly title regardless of how long the old book was running. (and of course, it gets increasingly sillier the longer it goes on. The thought of calling something "New Avengers issue 100" just doesn't seem right to me.

And yet, I still can't wait for that day to come...
