Okay, now imagine if Jack Kirby was one proton stream.
Got it?
Now, imagine that the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are ANOTHER proton stream.
K?
Well, here’s what happens when you cross them…

Is your mind blown yet?
A gazillion thanks to Peter Laird’s great Blast From the Past column for the picture.

This reminds me of an episode of the current Ninja Turtles tv series where Donatello teams up with a pretty familiar looking comic artist when they get stuck in a world the guy drew. I think it was called The King.

Rule one: Never cross the streams. It would be bad.
Try to imagine every molecule in your body exploding simultaneously and life as we knew it ceasing to exists.

I remember an original TMNT comic with that premise, I think. The Kirby character had a magic jewel tied to his pencil, IIRC.

Yep, that was the Donatello one-shot. I’ve gotta get me a copy of that one of these days.
As for this, yeah, mind blown. I don’t suppose the art is for sale?

Next time a turtle asks if you are a god, you say “YES!”

Don’t you ever make me think I get to see Kirby draw Venkman and disappoint me again. NEVER.

Now… That would be a sight…
Kirby drawing the scene on the roof with the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man!
AWESOME!

You know, I was hoping it was a Bruno Kirby sketch of Turtle from Entourage. But this is okay too, I guess.

Great God, what happened to Donatellos face? And what weapon is Raphael supposed to hold?

I can’t be the only one who thinks that drawing isn’t very good, can I?
I love Kirby. Love him to death. But that’s a sloppy sketch.

FUCK YEAH!
Now I wanna see a whole Turtles comic done by Kirby!
(And it’s the first time I’ve wanted to see a Turtles comic since I was eight)

Well, it was late in the game for him, but it could have been that it was intended to be inked - in which case I think that’s more than enough for an inker to work with.
(Not that I know much about inking, but I’ve seen pencils that looked great on the finished page that were much sloppier than this).

The moment I saw this awesome image was followed by seeing those Jim Lee designed TMNT action figures on a comic store rack, with their armored plating and steroid abuse. Talk about artistic whiplash…

Anyone else ever seen Kirby’s drawing of Mickey Mouse as a super-hero? It’s in a book released around 1991, maybe called the Art of Mickey or something similar, which featured full-page Mickey drawings done by non-Disney artists. Crumb, Moebius, and Basil Wolverton also contributed.
