I’m surprised that you didn’t mention that in making Montoya gay they made her into what someone at this site brilliantly called (sorry I can’t remember who) a ZOMG lesbian. I mean her character’s greatest flaw is that when she gets depressed she sleeps with random yet equally hot women. I mean that’s not a superhero storyline, it’s a porno storyline. It could be argued that this isn’t failing a writing a female character but rather failing to write a gay character and I guess that’s probably true, but I would be hesitant to call gender and sexuality completely separate concepts. To put it this way, can you really imagine a male gay character who goes around sleeping with strange men in a mainstream comic.

A few additional thoughts. My comments about Montoya not showing up recently obviously preceded her appearances in Final Crisis Revelations. I haven’t picked that series up so I don’t know how she’s stacking up.

Likewise, I haven’t picked up the New Young Generation X-Men series or whatever they’re calling that book. I’ll be curious to see how else they want to twist the character from her previous incarnations.

And as a small typo/quibble, when I said “Jean Grey’s telepathy”, I obviously meant “Psyloche’s martial arts skills”.
