That's a tough question, Zebulon, as David writes such long-running series in which things that might have happened dozens of issues ago come back into play. DC has collected the first six issues only, which might be a good place to start. IDW has the "second" series collected, I think, and when David brought it over to them, he made the first issue fairly accessible to new readers (jumping ahead something like 30 years), so that might be a place to start as well. As for Stray Bullets - someone else will have to answer that!

Ahh, Styx, good memories.
For someone looking to get into Fallen Angel, where would be a good place to start? Should I go back to the DC trades, or is there one particularly good arc that I should get to see if I like it? The same for Stray Bullets.

*sigh* I've only just received (& read, & as usual LOVED) I KILL GIANTS #3 this week, having had to order it online. I'm having to do the same with #4. Quite possibly my favorite title these days, with the possible exception of DDP's ODD SQUAD, which I'm also having to acquire from an online vendor, & #2 of which I think also came out last week or the week before. And while I'm not even entertaining the idea of my LCS convincing Diamond to ship those 2 titles or certain others I like, this week's shipment didn't include FALLEN ANGEL, either. Crap.

Every time I pass my shelf of crime/detective/noir comics and see only eight volumes of Stray Bullets, I get a little sad. I want so badly for more. So very badly.

Stray Bullets is so good that I actually yearn for more issues. Young Liars isn't even bathwater compared to Stray Bullets. I stopped buying Young Liars.

That's good to know that the newspapers are included in the Rex Mundi trade. I thought I read somewhere that they weren't, but they are such a cool part of the book that I'm glad they're there. But you still have to wait for them!!!!!

I just caught on to Rex Mundi recently through trades, and I do enjoy it quite a bit. And as a point of order, you do get the newspaper excerpts there as well. (Now it's just killing me waiting for the trades to catch up...book 5 doesn't come out until December. Part of me wants to pick up the new issues...but I'll have a continuity gap to deal with...)

The Rex Mundi trades DO have the newspaper pages. (At least vol.1&2 do) They are neat.

Yeah, you definitely have to read Stray Bullets. It's breathtaking, really. And though it's not required to enjoy the stories, there's a major joy to be found in starting at the beginning.

Regarding the criticisms of Fraction's IM... By defeating Ezekiel in unarmed combat, Tony did not achieve a victory. He disarmed and imprisonedthe figurehead of a new form of ideological villainy, and he stopped the suicide bombers using appropriated Starktech. He did not delete the technology and strategies that Stane gave out so freely from the world. All Tony's actions against Ezekiel did were to stop the symptoms of a much larger problem. Fraction's obviously going somewhere with this, and the direction he's headed looks to force Tony to re-evaluate a lot of his past and present decisions. Since this story arc reminded him that he can't fight free will ( something Mark Millar made him forget ), I'm looking forward to where this will lead.

Well, to be fair, Invincible Iron Man is basically the only Iron Man comic running since Director of SHIELD has been effectively been cancelled and is getting relaunched as a War Machine series after Secret Invasion. That said, I've been less than impressed by it as well. With the exception of Iron Fist, Fraction's recent Marvel work has been so astoundingly lackluster that I haven't been able to bring myself to read any of it for more than a few issues. He's clearly a talented writer, but when I've already dropped his runs on Punisher, Iron Man and Uncanny X-Men, all characters that I normally like, I have to wonder what going wrong here.

I'm in complete agreement with you over Invincible Iron Man. I felt everyone was fawning over it because the masterful Matt Fraction was writing it, but it really was undercooked by more than a few degrees. I dropped the title as well.
