Quick Guide to Witchblade TPBs

Reader Ben Herman asked:

I’ve heard some good buzz about Ron Marz’s run on Witchblade. Have any of his issues been collected ito TPBs yet?

Since Ron Marz took over the book, Witchblade has been a lot better, so as a result, the trade paperbacks for Witchblade are actually labeled so that Marz’s first storyline (which began at #80) is Volume 1, and proceed from there.

Offhand, I believe there are five volumes out so far (total shot in the dark, there, though).

The first volume is also priced at only $5!

EDITED TO ADD:

Reader sononsj asked:

Wait, so are any issues before #80 collected?

Yes, they are labeled Witchblade: Origins, and the first volume is currently out, collecting #1-8. Volume 2 is out in December, with Volume 3 out in mid-2009, which will take them to #25, which is as far as Top Cow plans to go with the Witchblade: Origins series.

For #26-79, you’ll have to go with the two giant-sized Witchblade Compendiums, each collecting 50 (Volume 1 does #1-50, Volume 2 does #51-100) issues.

Volume 2 is out this November, and I BELIEVE Volume 1 will be back in print at the same time.

there was a omnibus style trade that collected the first 25 or so issues. i think the top cow trades with the black and yellow logo are also the old issues too.

Around two years ago Top Cow put the earliest pages of Witchblade (& 2 other series) on Drunk Duck as a marketing tool.

How well it worked I don’t know.

Sounds like a ridiculous jumble.

I’ve been really tempted to buy those 1300-page Wildstorm omnibuses. They have them for Tomb Raider, Cyberforce, Darkness, Witchblade, and even the compelte Rising Stars, all spinoffs and side issues included. They retail for $100 but you can find them onlien for half as much. Only problem is I hear the binding isn’t that strong. Which may be why you’ve never seen a 1300-page full-color softcolor glossy comic before.

I own a copy of the Witchblade Compendium vol 1, which collects issues 1-50. I bought it new on eBay for $50–not a bad deal for 50 glossy, full-color issues. However, the binding is a definite weakness. The book is so thick that gets a little tricky to read the inner inch or so of the pages near the center of the book. And by the time you finish reading the book, the spine looks TERRIBLE on your bookshelf, because it’s all creased and wrinkled. Still, if you’re just looking to catch up with the series, it’s inexpensive and a lot less of a hassle than trying to track down 50 loose issues.

Wow, ask and you shall receive. Thanks for the info.
