Uncanny isn't quite as bad as the Chuck Austen or Peter Milligan X-Men years but its not good. Maybe its the awful creepy smile art or maybe its the too cool for school way that Fraction is writing this mess. Either way I wish it was just Brubaker on the title and not him and his pet. I just don't get Fraction's appeal, I've read other comics he has done and they all come across like he's trying WAY too hard to be cool.

And for the record, I hate the introduction boxes, those are the perfect example of his attitude.

Doesn't the credit box say Fraction wrote this arc? Sure there's story input from Bru, but I kept wondering why reviewers (Comic Book Club for example) keep giving Bru credit for upping his game on this arc.

Totally forgot about Booster Gold this week, thanks for the reminder.

I think you gave the Colbert issue too much credit though, Waid completely slept through it. Better than the Leno backup, but honestly not by a lot.

"Frubaker" sounds like something you wouldn't discuss with your grandmother.

You didn't grab issue one of Secret Six? THAT was a really good one to hook you. I loved issue two, but can see how it might not be the best jumping on point for someone who's never read any of the other stuff.

Fortunately, you have options in trade, which I highly recommend:

- Villains United tpb
- Secret Six tpb
- Birds of Prey: Dead of Winter tpb (crossover w/the six)

The Power is Yours!

It's pretty obvious that Matt Fraction is the writer on these recent issues, although the overall plot outline was done in collaboration with Brubaker. I say "it's obvious," because the narrative voice and dialogue is so different from Brubaker's solo run, and because Fraction said, in interviews, that he's writing this arc, while Brubaker is writing the next one. So, "Frubaker" doesn't really apply.

I do a lot of comparing Mike Carey to Ed Brubaker in my mind (Bru wins on execution generally; Carey wins on range). But I think Carey's X-Men work has been so much stronger than Brubaker's up until now.
