There's a three-disc version of the DVD. The one-disc version just seems to be the first disc of the three-disc version, as it only has deleted scenes from the first half-hour or so of the film.

Its something like 2:25 into the alternate opening- You blink, you miss it- its an uber-easter egg- meant for quick reflexes on the pause button, so as not to interrupt the through-line of the story and action. And the reason they didn't show the opening in theaters was that the filmmakers felt, probably helped by studio execs, that a scene where Bruce Banner tries to take his own life, was a far darker film than they wanted to sell.

we rented the dvd from blockbuster and spent forever trying to find the "alternate opening" scene but with no luck (seriously went through every single possible option). under deleted scenes there are about 6 scenes but none of them are the scene that everyone is talking about. was it only released on certain special edition dvds? is it a hoax??

Tim,

Whenever a movie uses CGI (or admits to it, anyway) there are ALWAYS detractors who will say that "the CGI sucks"... usually because they aren't really paying attention to the film, they are literally looking for the edges, incongruous shadows, etc... No matter how good the CGI.

Don't get me wrong, there is a LOT of bad CGI out there (even from industry heavyweights like ILM and WETA) but some of the brilliant stuff can be ruined by people swearing that they can tell it's been CGI'd (although there was a memorable case when a friend of mine was informed that what he thought was CGI was actually a latex puppet and was really shot in-scene - The informer being one of the guys who helped paint sai puppet...)

Personally I try to ignore it unless it sticks out like a sore thumb, otherwise you can really ruin a good movie... If you want to examine the effects, watch the film first, THEN go back and look for the joins...

Regarding the two shields... I thought I read an article where they state that the shield in Tony's workshop was a prototype that his father had been working on and not the actual one of Capt. America. No continuity issue at all if that is right.

People! Continuity solved! There were three Captain Americas before the modern era (not including the black Captain America that is Patriot's Grandaddie).

Stark just doesn't have Steve Roger's shield.

Guys, the Shield scenes were here only to make comic fans salivate, plus the Hulk scene was cut so it's not in continuity (I can't believe I just said that lol)

Plus, the Cap movie is in the early stade of pre-prod so there'll probably be changes during the shooting or in the Avenegers one.

Take it easy, 2 flicks & there's already continuity debates...

Of course, if you really wanted to get annoying with continuity, you could ask why Tony was building the shield when he hadn't yet been asked about the Avengers and therefore wouldn't have a reason to yet?

Couldn't it be explained that the shield Cap was frozen with is essentially WWII surplus and Stark just made a better version?

Where exactly is that Cap-on-ice scene? I can't find it on the dvd. (Although I haven't searched all that hard, but it's not clearly labelled anywhere.) Btw, my son and I watched the movie tonight and he loved it. I thought it was good -- better than I'd expected. I was told the CGI was terrible, and since my basis of recent comparison was the horrible "I Am Legend," which I sat through last weekend, this new Hulk movie looked pretty decent.

I can't wait to hear people complaining that this is a continuity error, what with the shield (supposedly) showing up in Tony Stark's lab in Iron Man. I still don't get why they didn't use the ice scene as the opening, though. Lord knows it looked like one of the more unique parts of what was otherwise a very paint-by-numbers movie. (Yes, I'm one of those weirdos who liked quite a bit of Ang Lee's movie...)
