Looks like the list of DC books I still read is significantly lessened

I’m really sorry to see Robin go. The Tim Drake minis were pretty much what got me to start picking up DC books as a kid and the characters one of my favorites, probably my favorite DC hero. Not to mention he’s pretty lame in Teen Titans right now and Robin was the best book featuring him.

Re: Manhunter – she makes more sense as a JSA cast member, even if the absolute last thing JSA neds now is another cast member.

I remember back in 1994 all the X-Men comics were cancelled…but not really, since they were all renamed and renumbered for the Age of Apocalypse story. (Which was quite cool, and let them spin off X-Man into his own book whilr bringing Cable back at the same time…neato.) I mean, they brought back Blue Beetle. And Booster Gold. And friggin’ Jason Todd. I’m pretty sure BATMAN is still going to show up on the spinner rack.

At this point I feel that Birds of Prey being cancelled is a mercy killing. The book has been floundering horribly since Simone left. The recent “new direction” set up the book has going isn’t helping at all, and this “are Misfit and Black Alice really sisters?” subplot Bedard has cooked up just reeks of bad fanfiction. I only hope that, once the dust settles, Huntress ends up somewhere good (and written by someone without a penchant for melodramatic exposition).

Due to those RIP rumors, I’m not terribly concerned about Robin and Nightwing; I’d have liked to see the numbering kept at least long enough for Robin to reach #200, but whatever.

Birds is a little more concerning, since it’s been separate enough from the Batbooks that there’s no obvious reason it would need a relaunch following RIP, and it’s trailing the others in sales by a fair amount. Best-case scenario for it is probably a relaunch as more of a Bat book, likely focusing on the “other” Bat characters who aren’t going to have their own book, who do happen to be mainly female (i.e. Oracle, Batgirl, Catwoman, Huntress, possibly Tim Drake depending on how things shake out.

I’m really sad to see Robin go. Ever since Dixon took on the title, it was going really well. Tim also happens to be my favorite character. But I have faith that DC is just shaking things up due to “RIP.”

I’m not fussed. Simone had a great run on BoP, but that’s already over. I’d rather see creatively struggling titles cancelled so that the overall standard can be raised a bit.
