Five Books on the Rack when Greg Hatcher was Born

Happy Birthday, Greg!

Notice how I even used two Batman covers, because I know how much you dig Batman! :)

Wow! Cool! Greg can actually say "Skrulls have been around since the day I was born!"

I'm jealous!

Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday! It's neat to check up on what comics were published during the month your were born in. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that Acts of Vengeance was running when I was born.

Happy Birthday, Greg, even if I get an uneasy feeling that Bendis is going to tie it in to Secret Invasion, too.

Until today I thought Greg was older than the medium! Who knew? (I kid, I kid)

Happy Birthday.

Happy birthday from a big fan, Greg!

Happy b-day, old guy!

Us old farts gotta stick together. ;-)

Happy birthday! May the bat-signal be with you... always

Gotta love how, upon discovering a second alien attacker, Batman automatically concludes there's an intergalactic bounty on their heads. That's quite the leap. Good old golden age logic!

Happy birthday to Greg!

Happy Birthday, Mr. Hatcher! :)

Happy B'day Greg!

Are those woodcuts? Did they even have printing presses back then? Sheesh.

Oh, Happy Birthday, Other Greg. Good to see you have good news on your birthday.

Happy Birthday, Greg.

Happy birthday, Greg.

Hope you had a good one.

What a great year to be born! Happy birthday. I thought I was old...

Is there some database where I can look up what comics would be on the rack on a certain date? That'd be neat.

I get such a kick out of the Roman numerals on Batman and Robin's costumes... So shall we assume that Dick is Batman? And why does Bruce's son have such bright red hair? What redhead was crushing on Batman back then?

Oh, and Drippy Haybath to Greg! (The anagram has a long history, involving a disassembled/reassembled "Happy Birthday" banner, but suffice it to say that it's reserved for those I hold in the highest regard.)

"What redhead was crushing on Batman back then?"

Vicky Vale, ace reporter and Lois Lane clone.

I wondered if it was her. I couldn't remember, and all I could picture was Kim Basinger. Not that there's anything wrong with THAT....

Wait, that's not irony. Is it? Now I'm confused.

Check the wonderful Mike's Amazing World of DC Comics at http://www.dcindexes.com/ (probably the first comics-related site I ever bookmarked), especially its Time Machine function, which not only shows the covers of every DC by cover date (month & year) but also offers a separate search whereby you can discover the comics that were actually in the rack in a specific month.

Thank you Dan Bailey!

That is brilliant! What an inspirational idea, Brian! Now to build up a list for my birthday wish list...

Anyone know of a Marvel equivalent database??

Not just Batman, but the Lone Ranger, too!

Thanks Brian, and everyone else, for the good wishes.

"Ironically, my son, who is now the new Robin, is overcoming the son of my old enemy, the Joker!"

That's kind of an... interesting definition of Irony.

And Happy Day-After-Your Birthday Greg

Not just Batman, but the Lone Ranger, too!

That's right! I knew there was a reason I had him on the list, too! :)

Red hair notwithstanding, the mother of Robin II in those stories was Kathy "Batwoman" Kane. Y'know, considering what utter crap those late '50s/early '60s Batman comics were, even compared to others of that era, it's kind of a miracle that Greg and I ended up big fans of the character.

And a belated happy birthday, O King of Tweed!

Happy birthday, Hatch!

For some bizarre reason, none of my follow-up posts yesterday ever appeared, but as I attempted to note at the time, the closest Marvel equivalent to Mike's Amazing World that I know of is the Silver Age Marvel Comics Cover index, http://www.samcci.comics.org/ . It's not nearly as comprehensive as Mike's, though, & I think covers only '62-'71.

Which is quite nice, but unlike youngsters of Mr. Hatcher's age, *some* of us predate FF #1, by gum.

'The Magazine That Respects Your Intelligence!' You'd go broke doing that, nowadays ...
Happy birthdate, human.
