>Cool cover by Gerald Parel.

>I like the attention to the background figures.

I see the elephant-riding Ghost Rider becoming the breakway character ovf 2009. And if he won't, he should be.

>Wow, I didn’t know that they made tin woman pornography.

>Tracing jokes aside, it’s a good cover by Land. Strong layout.

Rule 34... or is that 36, I always get those confused. (copy &paste to my reply to zombie nurses).

___________________________________________________

>Yeah, this cover is pretty cheesy, but I think the Dodsons mostly pull it off.

>Unless the purple-haired woman is supposed to be Pixie, in which case, never mind.

I'm really hoping that is British Betsy, I've been missing that character.

Later issues of Ythaq have better covers (not all of them though). This one makes me wish they'd picked a new cover for the American edition.

All in all, I love Bachalo as usual, Phillips is solid as usual, but Ferry and Immonen disappoint this time around. The Noir-covers are pretty cool, but it is Skottie Young who completely steals the show.

No, actually, as to the specifics of your statement, there has never been a Marvel Frogs- just that 2-3 issue arc by Simonson where Loki turns Thor into a frog... and then throws him right in the middle of the mutant massacre. Years later, I think someone did take the baton and ran with an new Frog of Thunder story, but you are right, no Marvel Frogs.

God I love the eighties.

As for Wolveracula- it was a What If: Wolverine became King of the Vampires, where the pivotal moment from 616 to What If 3.148472 came when Logan, temporarily vamporized (is that a word?) by Dracula, turned on him and killed him, inheriting his powers. Logan is now Wolveracula (they never called him that- that's just me), and the rest of the issue is Marvel Vampires. And let's not forget in that godawful Capwolf arc, they also turned Wolverine into a werewolf as well- and somehow, like fatal attractions, managed to ignore that adamantium is not going to take well to a human bone structure attempting to change shape to a wolfen one.

Oh, and Blakjak--- Thor, Frog of Thunder. Capwolf. Wolveracula.

There isn't a cash grab out there Marvel hasn't tried.

Okay. Maybe Marvel Bugs. Aside from bug powers, nobody aside from Annihilus is actually an insect....

...Right?

I guess it doesn't speak very well of me as a comic fan that the Avengers vs. Invaders cover, aside from looking great also appeals to me as it appears that Ms. Marvel is just not wearing anything below the sash.

Gebus, I loves me some bottomless Carol Danvers- visually at least- her solo book bored me to tears (at least the 5 or so issues I gave a chance). Frankly I never found her more interesting or better drawn than when George Perez handled the honors in Busiek's Avengers run.

Much as I did like Rom Lim's art from 20 years ago, I probably would have picked up the Iron Man/Dr. Doom series if it had been drawn more in the Anita Blake Style (though isn't that more of the inker's contribution??)

The Civil War cover looks like a Mark Bagley work - and I actually like the metal warping on the Statue of Liberty.

Y'know, so caught up was I in both the idea of Dr. Doom pwning all with the powers of the Beyonder, Galactus, and the Infinity Gauntlet, so happy was I to see the homage to perhaps my favorite Marvel cover of all time, Secret Wars 10, that I totally missed the reflection of the Celestials in Doom's gauntlet.

Lastly, I wish the interior art of the What-If House of M matched that exquisite cover- seeing a sample of the interior art (and I'm trying not to be too snippy or nasty here- but I suppose as a critique its unavoidable), just left me completely unenthused to read the story- dog my cats, I just found it overly busy, mashed in, and unappealling- which is disappointing as the concept is sound (though removing Cap's "powers" wouldn't do much, its been shown in "Streets of Poison" (terrifically by the aforementioned Rom Lim teamed with the unforgettable Mark Gruenwald) that a de-supersoldiered Cap is still a formidable opponent at a normal human's physical peak. Now if Wanda left him 100 years old with polio... ok, you got me.

@ MSJ..
Dang! I forgot! I just keep remembering Howard the Zombie Duck from that one...

Oh yeah, and I also remembered they covered Marvel Vampires in an early issue of Exiles (old exiles that is, not New)...

But they haven't done an actual title called "Marvel Werewolves" or "Marvel Vampires"... yet...

So, seriously, what other ideas do they have lying around they haven't used?

Marvel Frogs?

@Blackjack: Errrrr... at the end of the marvel Zombies/Evil Dead crossover, Ash escaped the Marvel Zombies world when he was transported to a universe where all the Marvel heroes are...... wait for it..... WEREWOLVES!!! There's your precedent.

re: Deadpool #5
Oh Wade...
I like the look on that face of his.
Is this a step up or down from Bea Arthur for him?

Here's the uncolored version of the Exiles Annual cover:

It's much better imo, and apparently the artist was not too happy with the coloring.

On the topic of the Ender’s Shadow Cover, he is indeed intended to be emaciated. The kid’s background was that he was created as an organ farm for his own brother, and when the operation was shut down he ended up on the streets of Rotterdam.
Sounds pretty interesting, especially since I've never read an American comic depicting another part of my home country (The Netherlands) than Amsterdam. I wonder what's the reasoning behind placing it in Rotterdam, and it sounds interesting aside from the geographical location too.

I can pretty much garantee you that a kid walking around like that in any place in this country would immediately get picked up and put into some child-care program though, my first thought was that it conveyed a generic Marvel third world country.

Nothing beats the Ghost Rider cover. It has African Ghost Rider riding an elephant.
I love Calero's black and white Noir covers. Great stuff.
Finch needs to draw a Sword and Sorcery comic.
And I love Skottie Young's Wizard of Oz cover. Will buy that in trades as the single issues cost 3.99.

"Presumably, the Art Adams cover was originally a pin-up."
True, but imagine what that implies...
There must be a run of themes like this lying around Marvel's offices - we've just seen Pirates on a Ms. Marvel comic recently, and we're in the middle of the third (not counting cross-overs) series of Marvel Zombies...
What's left that's been done as pin-ups or posters?
Marvel Werewolves?
Marvel Vampires...

The Ghost Elephant Rider in the background is cool! Can you imagine facing that?
"What? a Motorbike? Gimme a break! I just avoided being run down by Elephant! Piece of cake!"

Hang on! You mean it’s taken Marvel nine years to come up with an excuse to use the Art Adams Marvel Apes cover?!?!?!?

Wow.

On the topic of the Ender's Shadow Cover, he is indeed intended to be emaciated. The kid's background was that he was created as an organ farm for his own brother, and when the operation was shut down he ended up on the streets of Rotterdam.
On the subject of the zombie nurses, yes nurses don't dress like that anymore, and there are male nurses. It's a gag. Get over it.
