Well done Brian.

For those wondering, the dialogue is from the movie Dazed and Confused starring Matthew Mcconaughey: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vo4kDrWBa6c

as i did not, nor do i plan on reading this book, can someone tell me why namor started using heroin, of which i assume is the black sea version rather than the more prevalent black tar.

does it at least work for the story, or was the 'change' forced and without merit?

Skeevy Namor should be the new mascot. 1 the Dog has been around to long.

(Or we could take Yotsuba, like every other comics blog ever.)

It could be worse. At least he cut the ponytail.

Don't worry, soon Namor's look will revert back to what you're used to.

I read the comments. I walked away. I've never really liked Namor, and couldn't understand people caring about it.

But as I washed the dishes, I kept thinking, "That wasn't Namor. I know who Namor is, and that ain't him."

You want to introduce that douchebag as Ultimate Namor? Fine.

You want to make fun of the Marvel Universe in MARSHALL LAW or ASTRO CITY or any other non-Marvel comic, and do a Namor equivalent like that? Fine.

Heck, you want to make fun of Captain Bucky America, and kill Namor and have his cousin Bubba be the New Eurotrash Sub-Mariner? That's cool, too.

But there's no good reason for a character who's been consistently written and drawn for almost 70 years (and I'm talking about his fictional years) to have a personality transfer and suddenly lose his looks.

There's plenty to make fun of about Namor, starting with his clothes (although he'll kick your ass if you do it to his face). But this is sloppy, careless, shoddy story-telling.

When people do this with minor villains who haven't appeared in twenty years, it's funny.

This is also funny. But that's not saying it should have been done.

I think Dan's saying he's not upset by your opinion. I'm not either! I can see that some folks wouldn't like this version of Namor. I think it's spot-on. But whatevs, you know? You're the one writing essays about it. Some of us are just cracking jokes and having a grand old time.

For someone who doesn't care how other people take his opinion s, Dan, you certainly waste an enormous amount of time making damn sure everyone can read them.

Let's face it: if someone's posting their thoughts online, it's because they want other people to read them, which would seem to include caring how other people receive said opinions. And hey, look at this -- you keep replying to me, which would seem to belie your affected apathy.

"Joe and Dan manage to miss the bit about ‘endlessly repeat[ing]” the line.

I chuckled the first time I saw it in the other comments thread. The seventh or eighth person who said <I.the exact same thing was annoying. And the guys who’re actually arguing with me about it — Dan Apodaca among them — are, well, actually arguing with me about it."

No, I ignored that bit because I wasn't going to get into an argument with you about the fact that you took my 3 comments across two posts on the same topic to be "endlessly repeating" a line. And none of them repeated a line.

I'm not arguing with you about it. That's what you don't get. I don't care what you thought about the scene, or if my opinion offended you in some way. If you want to act like you're suddenly detached and above it all, go ahead. But stop invoking my name like you're some kind of martyr.

To add what I've said elsewhere: I don't care if Bendis and Maleev make Namor look stupid, really. But I do think it ends up detracting from the story, just as tiresome and teeth-grindingly repetetive jokes about the whole thing detract from the comments.
