I'm honestly amazed with how good Captain Britain and MI:13 gets with each passing issue. It's astonishing how much progress Paul Cornell has made in such a short time.

Kudos for giving good marks to LONE RANGER. It's definitely a worthwhile book.

PHONOGRAM sounds awesome. It's always cool when you've got a favorable enjoyment-to-price ratio. I remember when FELL first debuted and what an awesome experience that was... for around 2 bucks you got a complete story, plus a delightful dose of Ellis' mad ramblings about the creative process. Sooo cool. I wish it would go back to regular releases again.

Better not buy that Phonogram. I don't want the herp!

Paul Cornell is awesome, yes, and maybe that's why I'll buy any comic with his name on it these days. Captain Britain might be Marvel's best series right now-- it isn't big and flashy, but it gets stronger every issue, as you can see Cornell's comic-writing skills improve right before your eyes. You should really track down his amazing Doctor Who two-parter from 2007 and watch it. A fantastic ninety minutes of TV even if you don't give a shite about Doctor Who. Which I know you don't. But do it anyway.

A group (therapy) session on Final Crisis may or may not be interesting, depending how the story wraps up. Hopefully, like all good G-Mozz books, the ending makes the whole thing better. (I've only just recently read the Filth for the first time, and it was a work of beautiful genius).

Hickman isn't on The Avengers, he's on Secret Warriors, the Nick Fury book which should be called The Howling Commandos. And it's $2.99. The only $3.99 ones are DA and NA. But yes, not being interested and not wanting to pay that price are valid reasons to not be into it. The reason you listed in the posting itself was simply a matter of interpretation, and I have a huge issue with people saying a story is bad simply because a writer has a different interpretation of a certain character or characters. I don't believe Magneto would ever commit genocide, even under Sublime's influence. The only way that Sublime should have done it would be by taking him over completely like with Beast. That issue doesn't stop me from enjoying Planet X as a fantastic X-Men story.

Dalarsco: Sure, they've hit rock bottom, but it seems they would have a bit more self-respect. That said, I'm not buying it because I haven't been into that area of Marvel in a long time, and it appears all the tie-in books are going to be $3.99. I'm curious about someone like Jonathan Hickman's take on the Avengers, but probably not enough to buy it.

Tim,

Trade-waiters are those that can pass the "cookie test" (as my friend's mom calls it). Basically, if given the choice between one delicious cookie today OR two delicious cookies tomorrow, which would you choose?

I usually failed that test.

My four-year-old daughter did EXACTLY the same thing with "Wizard of Oz." She wouldn't wait for the collected edition either.

The lesson to be learned: Trade-waiters are made, not born.

Ahh, the Lo-fis! Takes me back to circa 1998-ish when the Allstars, the Beta Band and Campag Velocet were gonna save the music scene (and the world, possibly) under the banner of Skunk Rock! Gotta love that comics-music scene interface!

If your biggest objection to Dark Reign being that Osborne is giving orders to Namor and Doom I'd like to point out that you said yourself they were monarchs "in the past". They've hit rock bottom, just like Maleev's ability to draw Namor.

Michael Mayket...are you set for the Survivor finale? I'm setting myself up for a Sugar win, ensuring that we'll still be waiting for a deserving victor, a title last claimed by Earl almost two years ago.

Dude. Cornell. He's still fairly new as a comic book writer, but he can totally be one of the greats. I'm in total agreement, this series just keeps getting better and better. I want more monthlies from this guy.

There *IS* kind of a link between Bush and Serial Killers--one that I'm certain doesn't exist in real life, but one a comic writer could make something of.

Texas Killer Henry Lee Lucas, who the movie "Henry:Portrait of a Serial Killer" was based on, claimed to murder over 300 people at the behest of a secret satanic cult. Of course, he was totally full of shit, and found only to have killed like three people and was yanking everybody's chain.

He had been sentenced to death. On a tape I purchased of Lucas, he said his super-well connected satanic cult would save him and ensured he would never be executed for his crimes.

Lucas was the ONLY person Bush pardoned while Governor of California.

For the record, I care about I Kill Giants. I don't care as much about it as a few other books, but I'm ecstatic that Joe Kelly is back as a kick-ass writer, and maybe there's hope that "Winick" will no longer be a four-letter word. Also: the back inside cover funnies with Joe and JM? Very cute.

Agent_Topor: I reckon that we'd have to agree to disagree. Sure, I've been reading Gail's stuff dating back to Deadpool (though I did pick up her debut on The Simpsons #50) and I'm biased as hell, but Secret Six kicks ass. Biggest winner from that ongoing has to be Bane, who's grown a few dimensions as a recovering Venom addict. And then there's this exchange with a concierge: "Now, see if you don't mind me saying, can I ask what you bench press, sir?" "... costumed detectives, mostly." Also: Catman & Deadshot as the dysfunctional duo, Ragdoll being creepy as hell in an entertaining way, and Scandal still pining for her lost love Knockout. The book makes me laugh at least once every month.

@ Topor

Agreed. I bought the first two of Secret Six - could not get into it. I read all of the rave reviews for it, went back, reread it again (twice) and no hidden genius was suddenly revealed. *shrugs* To each his own, I guess, but I'm glad to hear someone else wasn't amused either. I was beginning to feel thick.

T., you know the good sergeant is just joking, right? I'm not reading Dark Reign for a host of other reasons, but yeah, even if you hate the current president and his cronies or the president-elect and his cronies, none of them are, you know, serial killers. Norman Osborn is a freakin' serial killer!!!!! And everyone knows it!!!!!!
