The Superman/He-Man book was official DC. It came out in 1983.
The book you saw would have been a Federal reprint for Australian audiences (we didn't get new comics shipped or have comic shops back then).

There are four Batman/Judge Dredd teamups, all in-continuity (at least for Dredd, where some supporting cast members were killed).

There's a trilogy featuring Judge Death/the Dark Judges teaming up with Bat villans, and another that's almost an interlude featuring the Riddler.

As I recall they're all written by John Wagner and Alan Grant, and all feature amazing art by a couple of different artists. They're really, really good and available in a collected edition from DC.

One of my biggest regrets was not picking up Superman Vs. He-Man when I saw a tattered copy of it about 10 years ago at a the local markets. It was a Black and white afair done by an Australian publisher (back when there where australian publishers). It seemed to be from the late 80's and looked horrid. I would give anything to pay that measily 50c and pick it up now, boy it looked horrid.

Mike Blake posted:

[quote[
>Julian Posted:
> That issue where Batman meets the Shadow looks to be aces.
The Batman / Shadow story has what I thought a great little bit of an addition to the Batman origin. One day before the fatal trip to the theater, young Bruce accompanies his father to the bank. An armed robbery begins, but the crooks are confronted by The Shadow with his blazing .45s. The child Bruce is lying on the floor of the bank with his father, hands over his ears trying keep out the terrifying noise of the gun battle.

Years later when Batman meets The Shadow on a case and reveals to him he was one of Batman’s inspirations, the Shadow offers him one of his famous pistols to help him carry on the fight. But the experience with guns as a child (even aside from the shooting death of his parents) actually helped inspire him the *other* way — to never carrying or using firearms. He turns The Shadow’s gift down.

A good little story, but ignored in continuity for many years not so much because it was a bad idea, but because DC hasn’t had the rights to publish The Shadow in years, so they can’t mention him!
You're thinking of the second crossover story of Batman and The Shadow [Batman #259, Dec 1974]. The crossover pictured above is Batman #253 (Nov 1973). In it, Batman finds himself on the trail of a counterfeit case that The Shadow has already been working on. The Shadow secretly tips off Batman to the source in Arizona, as well as providing assistance [both secretly and more openly] along the way. The Shadow and Batman don't actually meet until the end of story though. Like the #259 story, the Shadow is older - as if he had aged in real time from the 30s & 40s when Street & Smith published the pulp mag, The Shadow Magazine.

Vincent Paul Bartilucci:

Batman and Wolverine did better than team up, if I'm not mistaken after the Marvel vs. DC mashup there was a series of *amalgamation* books where they blended a Marvel and DC character together...

Batman + Wolvering = Dark Claw... or something like that... Imagine jet black wolverine suite with a cape and claws....

Oh back in the day!

Vishal, he wasn't the GODDAM Black Canary-humping Batman who would abandon Robin to the Batcave to eat rats. He called Spawn an "undisciplined punk". His exchange with Alfred in the cave was laugh out loud funny. Nothing had to be blacked out.

The writing was pulpy, "two generals high-five" "he could have been a surgeon or a concert pianist" "bury this" (slightly misquoting, I'm sure), but it wasn't the over-the-top characterization in ASBARTBW. This may be a Batman that was between his YO and ASBARTBW, but it wasn't exactly either.

Batman Grendel is fan-freaking-tastic, if extremely dense.
Batman and Captain America was a big fun sammich with extra fun sauce.
Batman Deathblow surprised the hell out of me with how good it was.
Batman Hellboy Starman was pretty decent, but not as good as it should've been.
Batman Planetary was extremely groovy.
Batman Spirit was slight, but fun.
Batman Tarzan had nice art.

Batman / Spawn was spectacularly dreadful.

It was indeed, but the picture above is from Spawn/Batman which was great!

Go back to your Archie and Jughead books if you find Loeb beyond your reach. Seriously- go.

That's 'beneath' not 'beyond'

Only thing I noticed was how many covers were Batman along with a Marvel Comics hero, which only goes to show DC COMICS = TEH SUXX0RS

This is an English speaking forum. Also you're talking crap.

Jeph Loeb has never written a winner

He did write one. The Challengers of the Unknown miniseries (collected as The Challengers of the Unknown Must Die) is great!

Just for kicks, some silly ideas that popped into my head:

Batman / Archie - When his teen sidekick Robin is injured, he heads for Riverdale to recruit a new player. Here it is revealed that Batman took classes with Miss Grundy.

Batman/Teenaged Mutant NInja Turtles-

Gotham 24 : Batman/Jack Bauer- Watch them manipulate each other and make pawns of the rest of us. Ra's Al Ghul has planted a biogas bomb in Gotham City and CTU needs to stop him.

Batman and Snake Eyes

Batman and The Lone Ranger

Batman and The Phantom

Batman and The Rock

===

And you know, I think someone mentioned it but I'm surprised no one has done BATMAN WOLVERINE. Have Jim Lee draw it and DC/Marvel have a surefire seller.

Of course, there are the Batman characters that have their own meetings as well:

Batgirl/The Ghost
Catwoman/Vampirella
New Teen Titans/X-Men (which featurs the Dick Grayson/Robin)
Young Justice/Spyboy (which features the Tim Drake/Robin)
Joker/The Mask

Missed one! Batman also appeared in the Comic Relief Comic (details here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comic_Relief_(charity)#Merchandise). I have it, but I can't recall which other-company characters Batman interacted with in its pages!

josh what are you talking about he was every bit the caricature in Batman Spawn that he is in all star.
Have to say the first Batman/Predator was excellent. Great atmospheric drawing by the Kuberts and a top story showing Batman as a tactiction.
The batman Grendel also stands out as one of the better ones. As much about the supporting players as the main protagonists. The quality of the others varied greatly
