Food for thought: If the first two images were done by a man photrealistically instead of somewhat cartoony by a woman, would they be considered objectification?

>Though it proves what I’ve always said: There is no woman who is not made significantly less attractive with an afro.

You've always said that, huh? Comes up a lot?

It also occurs to me that, while altered to reflect more contemporary ( or even more retro, in Storm's case ) fashions, the aesthetic Jones is working with is very similar to the mid-80's X-Men when John Romita Jr. was drawing. Of that period's cast, only Wolverine and Nightcrawler kept their traditional superhero costumes. Storm kept her punk look, while Rogue and Kitty went for harder, asymmetrical arrays of leather and colored fabric, and Rachel debuted in little more than dancer's clothes. Colossus and the reformed Magneto looked kind of superheroic, but their works were drastically simplified and improved from traditional tights. The result made the X-men quintessentially distinct from traditional superheroes.

This was the best street-clothes X-Men ever looked, and why I liked Joelle Jones' designs so much.

Excellent stuff.
However...
As cool as it is to try something (else) radical with Ororo, let's face it, it looks like she's on her way out (note that she's the only one giving up the butt shot) of the pic shoot to go see her pimp...
It just doesn't seem feasible to me that she would take fashion inspiration from Foxy Brown and Mike Sekowsky's Wonder Woman.

Sage...
Those are shorts, btw.

I can't see storm rocking a 'fro, but the look she's giving sure is alluring. Hey, if she wore a mowhawk once, she might be able to do the poof.

My favorite is Jubilee. That's the character perfectly.

Huh. Nice artwork. Though it proves what I've always said: There is no woman who is not made significantly less attractive with an afro.

Also, I'm thinking Storm likely would never wear a skirt that short, too.

Wonderful stuff. The Storm rendering isn't exactly how I would re-envision her ( she seems to have stolen some of Emma Frost's wardrobe ), but I appreciate the new idea and the attempt not to draw her with completely straight hair. Jean and Rogue are really good, especially the half-zipped jacket Rogue's rockin'. And that may be the best rendering of Jubilee I've ever seen.

Next time the books get a makeover, they could do well to take some fashion advice from Joelle Jones.
