i agree that this is Jason Todd's greatest moment.
WW is great in this issue, as she takes a beating from Mongul to buy time.

We’ve seen a really angry Superman many times since but I don’t recall anything even remotely like it before and never so effectively.

Check out the Cary Bates/Curt Swan story from the early -mid 80's in which Lex Luthor reformed. Supes was furious at the end of that. Unfortunately he was also a dickhead and caused an innocent clone to be zapped off to some other dimension and Lex Luthor to turn evil again.

An excellent story ruined by a terrible ending - but it did have a very angry Superman

The burn line is great but my favorite moment is that page of Mongul hearing Superman break out of the Black Mercy but simply can't turn fast enough to face him before being punched through half the Fortress.

Of all Superman stories that's the one that had me believe that Superman had been pushed to the breaking point. We've seen a really angry Superman many times since but I don't recall anything even remotely like it before and never so effectively.

That Mongul story is the only time where it's acceptable for Superman to cry, because he kicks so much ass afterwards.

I don't think DKR was overrated but I do agree that Year: One was better. Heck, I actually prefer Year: One to Born Again, but it's a tight run thing. Year: One may not have been as high-concept, but I can't think of any tighter storytelling that Miller has ever done.

Question: What issues is the Superman-Mongol fight in?

the only Ultimates fight i really loved was the team vs. Hulk cause it wasn't clean, it was a very sloppy fight fought bya group of people who for the most part were a team in name and nothing else.

The Daredevil Vs Nuke was awesome, a great fight, 'Born Again' is one of the few Daredevil stories I really like, in fact, it was the first Daredevil TPB I bought. I was waiting for the battle against the Liberators, it's my favorite from the Ultimates. Peace.

I think "Born Again" was perhaps the best story Frank Miller ever wrote. As much as I liked his original run on Daredevil, I thought this took things to another level. I think the Mongul fight should have included Wonder Woman, Batman and Robin. WW fought long enough for Bats to remove the lotus from Supes. Bats ends up trapped by the Lotus. While Supes flies off to take on Mongul Robin uses Mongul's gloves to pick up the Lotus and throw it on Mongul ending the fight. Probably Jason Todd's best moment.

Aren’t you supposed to be off today?

I think he's using the post-date, timer function. But I'm working on this week's column, and I think Burgas is writing his too. I felt guilty about it, but Julie shooed me off with, "A holiday means doing stuff you like doing." And I like writing my column. I think I'll take a break to watch Goldfinger on Spike, though. Cable TV has made 007 a Christmas tradition around here.
