In the “Holy Crap, Why Did No One Tell Me?” Category…

Norm Breyfogle is going to be drawing Archie. Yeah, that Norm Breyfogle. The Norm Breyfogle who drew the best Bat-run ever. Drawing him the Riverdale crew in his own style! I am intrigued.

Anyone else think his Archie looks like a dead ringer for Jimmy Olsen?

Great artwork though!

I’m a huge fan of Breyfogle’s work; I would actually pick up Archie comics for this.

Ha! I was just about to post about this!

It looks really good – the best “new look” Archie drawings I have seen yet by FAR. He actually manages to encapsulate the very idea that it being attempted – keep it clearly Archie – just with a new, dynamic look. His figures “feel” like the characters they are meant to be and yet also stand out as unique takes on said characters.

Brilliant stuff.

I usually never go near Riverdale, but this piques my interest. I especially like his take on Jughead.

I really have no use for Archie, but Norm Breyfogle is a genius.

I’ve always wondered what happened to a lot of the great writers and artists I used to see all over. No offense to Joe Staton, but his style just doesn’t work for the realistic line of Archie Digests that have been coming out lately. Norm OTOH has a great style and his models look fantastic, especially Juggy.

I love this.

Wish that Norm could find work in the action/heroes genre, but still I am glad he is working.

Best-bat run ever Bill? Not a fan of the Engelhart/Rogers run or any of the O’Neil/Adams issues or the fine work by Haney/Aparo in the Brave and the Bold or the creepy Moench/Jones run?

I really loved Norm’s Batman (especially when he inked himself), but the best Bat-run ever?

Not bad… though to me it feels like NEW characters that kINDA look like Archie and the gang, but aren’t really them. Maybe that’s the idea.

The important thing is: what kind of STORIES are going to be told with them? The art begs for more realistic stories, and that’s not what the “last issue never happened” type of Archie stories usually offers. Anybody know?

Oh, hell yeah!

Looks better than any of the previous “Realistic Archie” stuff I’ve seen (not that I’ve seen all of it… It really looks good.. Particularly like the Jughead beanie, looks like someone was paying attention to the recent Comic Legends Revealed…

Interesting. Is it just me or dd he draw Veronica as Asian?

Dalarsco: It’s just you. I didn’t intent for her to look Asian.

Everyone else: Thanks for your interest and enthusiasm!

Without giving away anything specific plot-wise, the Archie stories I’m drawing are indeed more “realistic,” even while retaining a definite Archie feel.

How does Breyfogle not get more high profile work? It just boggles my mind to see some of the hacks out there who have their pick of projects but have zero storytelling and anatomy skills and can’t keep a schedule. I’m definitely gonna support this.

I wouldn’t call it the best, but it’s definitely way above Engelhart/Rogers and Moench/Jones.

For me the Grant Breyfogle Batman is the definative batman. I love his work. Is there a reason that he doesn’t get more work from the big two? I get the feeling from the little bits I read that he fell out with DC?

But really come on compared to some of the work out there Norm could knock the socks off most of the artists working at the big two these days. Dare I say it as well he could get a book out monthly to boot!
