Willingham's ability to write large casts should serve him well on JSA. However, I wasn't impressed with his Shadowpact. The personalities on that team were pretty generic and at some points interchangeable among the cast. Enchantress should be one of the most unique and interesting characters in the DCU, but instead became just another cape.

Hmmm... in my experience, Bill Willingham's writing outside of Vertigo hasn't be close to the quality of his Vertigo stuff - but then I stopped enjoying JSA when James Robinson left and dropped it about a year later so I'm not really fussed who writes it.

Nah, I'm sure they can write fascists and nazis well, too. It was just a thought. Willingham does a fine job with a variety of characters in Fables.

Willingham’s supposedly conservative nature could work well with the older characters as well as the patriotic characters in the group while Sturges, the younger upstart, may do well with the younger characters.

I think one can be conservative yet manage to write younger characters, you know. Being a good writer means putting yourself in the shoes of people different than you. I don't think I've ever heard people doubt whether a liberal writer can write an older character or a corporate businessman, yet somehow people seem to think a conservative writer can only write older characters and patriots?

So at least thematically, with the whole older generation/newer generation in the JSA thing, this is a fitting choice.

My favorite moments of the last year or so of the JSA were the Norman Rockwell-like moments: the pancake breakfast, the boxing match, etc. These were so charming, but not frequent enough.

And I think Kirk means wary, but he may be weary, too.

What they oughtta be doing on an ongoing basis is what they're only doing to bridge the Johns era to the new one: let Jerry Ordway write and pencil the book, in consultation with Johns and in co-ordination with Jimmy and Justin over on POWER GIRL.

No knock on Bill and Matt; there's just so much more interesting work they could be doing by focusing on FABLES and HOUSE OF MYSTERY and such. (Not to mention that their recent sales histories on mainstream DCU books are pretty scary.)

Does anyone still believe in Didio and his schedules? They've just changed the whole concept of Adventure Comics AFTER its ordering! Twice! No team announced at all! So, I believe there will be fill-ins. It's just DC nowadays.

I don't know. Shadowpact was a great concept that fell flat. I think the Sturges issues (he did work on it, didn't he?) were stronger than the Willingham issues.

I'm a bit weary.

There seems to be some inconsistancy about when their run starts. Geoff Johns in his exit interview on the book at Newsarama said his last issue was issue #26 and focused on Stargirl (who else?) Didio then went on to say that Willingham and Stuges needed some extra time to free up their already busy schedules, leading me to believe we would get some fill-in issues. Now though, I'm reading Didio saying they will start with issue #26 and I don't know if that's a mistake on Didio's part of if there has been a change in plans...

but here's a question - when will they start? Will #26 (which I think is their first issue) come out a month after 25, or later in the year, or will it be relaunched?
