CHEERS to Daniel Way’s latest issue of Wolverine Origins. He almost made me interested in Daken.

Got to disagree with this. Way took all of the good work that was done (by Mike Carey) in the ‘Original Sin’ arc and just got rid of it in one fell swoop. Carey actually done a lot of work to make Daken an interesting character and one I could care about but Way just erased this and deserves major JEERS.

JEERS to Marvel for being greedy and making the Christmas Hulk variants TWO separate covers and for making the Dark Reign Wasp/Pym book $4 for only 8 out of 64 pages being new content.

You should at least give this one-shot issue a chance, Stefan. It’s only one issue! And it has Tim Green art! Tim Green is amazing!

And while I agree Garbett did a good job, my jeer was strictly for the idea of not giving his last issues more of a push – going with a fill-in artist rather than a big name. Imagine J.H. Williams doing these last two issues! But yeah, let me again stress – I do like Garbett’s work – I think he’s going to be a big guy at DC in the future.

Mm. Maybe I’ll give DS on Iron Fist another shot.

Gotta disagree about Gabrett. I thought the art was fantastic, and so much better than Daniel’s R.I.P. Yeah, it’s a little odd that it’s someone we’ve never heard of, but what does it matter as long as the art is good!? Grant Morrison needs to have a talented artist working with him – he doesn’t necessarily need a big name one.

I had a great example for the :” ____ is a step up from ______ ” quiz, but I don’t really want to write about exploding and/or projectile bodily waste eminations.

Anyway, Billy Tan’s New Avengers artwork suxx, and seeing the solicits for the next few issues, only seems to be getting worse.

“Some JEERS to the story of the latest issue of New Avengers, too. Particularly the part where Iron Fist quits the team, is in the room when they find out that his namesake, the daughter of his best friend, is missing – and then he isn’t shown helping to look for her…”

Particularly JEER-worthy about this is Danny’s reason for quitting the team and not helping look for Luke and Jessica’s daughter. He’s seriously more worried about his economic portfolio than protecting the world or even looking for the kidnapped child of his best friend? It just didn’t ring true to the character at all.

Wait, so is it Turtle Boy or Turtle MAN? People on line always say Turtle Boy but that cover says Turtle Man. Genocide is not only an icky, dumb concept but visually unappealing as well, I agree.

I also second the Cheers to Audrey Loeb. Her writing is funny, clever and pretty well-done, she’s already a much better writer than her dad.

“JEERS to Billy Tan’s artwork in this week’s New Avengers. It was quite bad. Of particular awfulness was his take on the new Captain America – it just sort of popped off the page with awfulness. It was bad enough that it honestly took me out of the story for a moment as I adjusted to how bad Cap looked.”

At first I thought it was that the suit was designed to only be seen in light of the ultra-murky Captain America colouring, but… yeah, that was freaking hideous, especially on the big splash page where Cap looked all weird and distended.

I think that Duane Swierczynski is actually getting better and better each month with his comics. Obviously he’s an experienced writer to begin with but it’s a whole different medium and all, but he’s shown a ton of improvement over the last year and I’m really glad to see it.

You have to admit, taking over Iron Fist had to be the most thankless job ever.

Sales on The Flash are apparently approaching Street Poet Ray levels, at least if my shop is any indicator. Apparently, they ordered a grand total of *one* non-pull-list copy, and it was shelved in the rack that’s mostly really obscure independent stuff. (And this is a very full-service shop, that carries everything.)
