As a moment in comic history, it's great; as a panel, it's not up to John Buscema's usual standard--the face looks good, but the anatomy is weird. It looks like he's crying because his corset is twisting his spine!

This is one of the reasons I prefer Byrne as an art robot as opposed to script writer. For every great FF story, there’s a retconned Vison or a Generations or a Chapter One to screw with my pleasant memories of John Byrnes work.

Superman ruined Byrne as a writer. "The Man of Steel" was awesome, but Byrne couldn't make two series work. Every series he wrote after that went over-board with the massive, dramatic changes.

Roy Thomas and John Buscema were my favorite team on The Avengers. Buscema made everything look so slick and modern. Thomas has always done great character work and The Vision was a totally fresh idea.

love this scene, total classic, and beautifully drawn. reading this in reprint sold me forever on the idea that the Avengers is the best team book ever, and that it's true greatness lies in the core of second tier characters -Hawkeye, Vision, Wanda, Hank, Jan, Black Knight, Beast, Wonder Man, who writers had free reign to actually give life to. totally agree with kirth, byrne is amazing as an artist (though his earlier, austin inked stuff looks better and better in comparison to his later, sketcy-er stuff), and i guess pretty dynamic as a co-plotter, but when given the keys, very up-and- down

I believe that is George Klein on inks, yes.

The Vision is the character that got me hooked on John Buscema's artwork. One of the best costume designs ever, as well.

An excellent issue and a historic moment for both the Avengers and the Silver Age of comics!

Don't try. It doesn't make any sense.

WHY, oh WHY that Byrne couldn't leave Vison alone is something I will NEVER comprehend.

Someone tell me: why CAN'T The Vison have the GA Human Torchs body? What was so WRONG with that? It was a CLASSIC series of stories (v1 #135 is a stand out).

The original Vision was programed by Ultron, using the emotional/memory emplate of Wonder man, using a sort of chronal anomaly version of the original Human Torch's Body (go read Avengers Forever for the explanation of the body, I can't explain it very well).

The Young Avengers Vision is the programming of the original Vision, only it has the emotional and mental template of a still young (and good) Kang while his body is a shapeshifting suit of armor belonging to said young Kang.
