You've summed things up quite nicely.

Bravo to Simone. That last page was...unexpected...

What happened?

The last page was . . . if it turns out that people blew chunks reading it, I would not be surprised. And I mean that in a good way.

Crash-Man: Many, many things. I was thinking she was hardcore even BEFORE the last page, and that just clinched it.

I have to admit, I was dragged into the internetz anti-hype that was people bitching over Simone making Junior seem too hardcore and scary for a seemingly no-name villain...but that revelation and the whole brick-throwin' Bane interrogation might just have been my road to Damascus moment as far as Gail Simone's writing is concerned.

That was fucking hardcore.

SSSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's supposed to be a "secret".

That's why they call it the "Secret Six".
Or maybe they'll call it the "Secret Five".

;-)

I'm really not a fan of Simone's writing at all, so I'm eager to see if this will turn my opinion around about her

"people bitching over Simone making Junior seem too hardcore and scary for a seemingly no-name villain"

Now, that I don't get. All villains start out as no-names, and the writer has to build them up somehow. Hell, Ra's al Ghul started as a no-name, but look what Denny O'Neill did with him in just one story.

I think its okay to start Villains out as being super hardcore. Without being a significant threat from the get-go, the fans have no reason to support their continued appearance in comics. We have to take these guys seriously in order for the heroes' triumph over them to be meaningful. Guys like Dr. Octopus, Dr. Doom, and the Joker all kicked major ass from the start.

On the other hand, a hero should not start out being super hardcore, because heroes have much more opportunities at character development than villains. Most people cheer for the underdog and follow heroes to watch them develop and improve as people, the quintessence of this being Spider-Man, who is, in my view, the most compelling super hero of all.

That wasn't the revelation I was expecting, but I was pleased nonetheless. Was anyone else reminded of Jesse Custer's grandmother?

Gail Rocks!!! Secret Six really is one of the best comics out there!!!!!!!!

i actually sort of feel like people are going to be talking about this issue years from now in a sort of "One Punch" sort of way.

Like what Cronin's doing with his comic book moments.

Yes indeed. The get out of Hell free card is a great MacGuffin, Junior is a genuinely scary villain, and Jeannette vs. The Shark was completely badass. The revelation of Junior's identity was a good one - it makes sense, it establishes him as more than just a random villain, and Gail mentioned his existence back before this arc even started. So yeah, Gail Simone is all kinds of awesome.

It also explains Junior's choise of living space quite well.

Both LCS's are sold out. Grrr... My fault for not putting it on my pull list sooner, I guess.

Just got the issue and it was awesome.

Funny how you get characters acting their most noble (sort of) in a book filled with villains.

This is the best Bane has ever been.
