Reminds of the scene from one of the Austin Powers movies, where they show us the reaction of family of one the nameless security guards working for Dr Evil. Granted, that was a brief joke, but still...wonder if they got the idea from this?

Plus, it tosses out "Edith said to call him Boody," a bizarre line which isn't picked up for a couple dozen more issues with the weird Buddhist stuff and the Hand of Glory. Great stuff.

Yeah, Doug, further details make the issue even cooler, but I figure it'd be best to just give a bare bones explanation of the issue to readers.

The issue is named "Best Man Fall", and there's a story behind that -- it's named after a Scottish children's game where boys (always boys) play out death scenes (i.e., storming a machine gun nest with grenades, or whatever) and whoever has the most convincing one wins. It really is a brilliant single issue. But -- Brian, I think your post is a little misleading! Because the twist isn't really a surprise -- if the reader has been paying attention, it's clear by page three or so who Bobby is, and what's coming. And I can tell you, that just makes the story that much stronger. Doug M.

Invisibles is full of cool comic book moments, but most of them would require too much explanation. This one is a great choice, and, as it happens every time I see an Invisibles reference, makes me want to go back home and reread it once more.

I guess that concept was played more than once, then... Because I am talking about this comic.

On second thought, though, mine probably isn't a perfect fit because it wasn't really specifically indicated that he ended up being shot by Leia... Just that he became an anonymous, expendable Storm Trooper.

I found it quite affecting back then, though.

I saw a story like this once in a Star Wars comic, which detailed the life and political choices of a guy…who ended up being one of the stormtroopers who Princess Leia shoots in the face in Episode IV. Ha! I think I remember that story! In fact, it's the Klaus Janson-drawn Star Wars comic I was referencing in my comment in this this post. I'm pretty sure Garth Ennis didn't write that... It appeared in the 1980s before Ennis had even started his career, I think.
