Is This a Blackest Night Spoiler?
Reader Barry wrote in to ask if this is a spoiler or if it has been revealed already. I do not know. Anyone know?
Spoilers (of course)!
I noticed that the DC Solicitations for April include an action figure described as: “Black Lantern Earth-2 Superman 6.75” h”
Is that a spoiler for Blackest Night? Did we know Earth-2 Superman was going to be a Black Lantern? I’m just curious if that is a spoiler or if I haven’t been paying attention. Thanks

First I've heard of it, but I was just thinking about it yesterday! Weird, huh? I saw the solit pictures but the blacked-out character looked too buffed to be Supes. I hope it's true, because it would be great to have him back! I absolutely hated the way Earth-2 Supes was treated in Infinite Crisis.

To be fair, the this isn't a new idea, but it was never made explicitly clear like this.
Look at the "Coming The Year" page at the end of Justice Society of America #1, panel three:

I didn't even know he was dead.
Wait, no, I was confusing him with the Kingdom Come Superman.

I figured he would be back after the changes in the Infinite Crisis HC. The line hints that he didn't die, but went somewhere else as his presence could still be felt ( I think by power girl).

"Included in this series are Earth-2 Superman, the first member of the lifeless, emotionless, Black Lanterns to be revealed"
So, the first super-hero ever, the Golden Age Superman is the first Black Lantern. It's shocking, and it definitely will bring some more emotional story material for Kara/Power Girl, not to mention Kal and Kara New Earth, but is it good?
And does this mean Bruce Wayne's going to be a Black Lantern instead of a New God. >:P

Speaking of future spoilers, it's about time for another round of Judging Books by their covers, isn't it?

I remember, maybe a couple of years ago at this point, that after Infinite Crisis Power Girl had a dream (in JSA, I'd assume, I don't recall for sure) where the arm of a Superman punched up from the ground beneath his tombstone.
When the Kingdom Come Superman showed up in JSA, I wondered the dream was about him and was a red herring. Maybe it wasn't a red herring, KC Kal was, and this is what's the dream was predicting was going to happen.
Another question to ponder... Will it be the corpse of the original Golden Age Earth-Two pre-Crisis Supes, or the post-IC new multiverse Earth-2 Superman? We've already seen they have their own Kara who's been looking for their missing Man of Steel.

The way I was understanding the Black Lanterns was that they are dead.
"The Dead Shall Rise.."
So... Earth-2 supes would therefore be perfectly eligible (as long as he was dead) ... I think the Justice League Infinity or Justice Society Infinity seen in JSA recently and posited as Earth-Two (as opposed to Earth-2) should have vanished with the dissapearance of everything else Gog made happen... BUT... We do still have Magog... so-o-o...
Bruce Wayne should be noticeable for his absence, as he should (if the majority of theories are correct!) be tied up in the Omega Sanction and not actually dead...

@ Dunc..
Yep! Each time I post I get an error and have to go back two pages and refresh just to see if it posted properly... IE5 and Firefox 3...

As far as I know, Ethan Van Sciver and Geoff Johns have been hinting at this sort of thing for months, by saying at conventions, that basically if you are dead, you're Black Lantern fodder. So no, I don't think that it's a huge spoiler.
But if Terry Long shows up as a Black Lantern, then, I'm running for the hills.

Hmm... major heroes coming back as undead menaces... where have I heard that recently?
Oh yeah. MARVEL ZOMBIES. How original.
Let's hope the Black Lanterns don't eat people. (Though given the current DC, they might just tear them apart alive.)
Not interested.

Yeah, cause the concepts are all the same, from what we have seen so far...
I wish i had the same crystal ball you had, critcizing something that's not even out yet.

I wish I had a Matrix like ability to download information directly to my brain because without that I don't know how I'm going to understand anything that DC is putting out in the stores now.... I didn't even finish reading 52 yet...
I have no problem with Didio and everything he instigated, I just wished he would have less energy and that he would have done it in the course of a 7 year span, not 2-3 years.
Black Lanterns, Yellow Lanterns, Fluorescent Lanterns, c'mon! I suppose it's not a bad idea, but it seems lame when just reading about it.

"Black Lanterns, Yellow Lanterns, Fluorescent Lanterns, c’mon! I suppose it’s not a bad idea, but it seems lame when just reading about it."
Indeed. It's just too much, too soon. Roll out one colour per year, tops, if you're going to do this. THEN do the big throwdown between all of them.
I maintain that what DiDido really needs to do is sit down in front of some 80s NWA to understand how to book long-term.

"Hmm… major heroes coming back as undead menaces… where have I heard that recently?

HAHAHAHAHAHA! Oh yes, because Marvel has a copyright on zombies. Last time I checked not everyone who comes back from the dead wants to eat brains, but then again that's just me.
John's has stated numerous times that he had this story plotted as part 3 of 3 major story arcs BEFORE starting GL:Rebirth , which incidentally hit stands a year before Marvel Zombies. Nevermind the fact that anyone with a GL background can see Nekron from a million miles away as the big bad for the Black Lanterns.
If you are reading the Lantern books, I can't understand why you don't get what's going on. If you think the concept is "lame" then don't read it. I'm sure the 80,000+ of us reading it each month will still enjoy it without you.

Yes, I have the same problems as Dunc and Blackjak posting comments, for about a week or so. Firefox 3.05; I'm testing it in MSIE 7 with this message.

I've read the first trade of 52 - I read nothing of Infinite Crisis nor Identity Crisis - and I've had no trouble picking up and following any DCU books.
There's been a couple of things where I've wondered - 'When did Superman get a new fortress' (for example), but nothing that got in the way of the story.
But I don't seem to read the books that people get all worked up about.

So let's see, my reaction to "Infinite Crisis":
God, this is tacky, taking the dignified and graceful exit Marv Wolfman gave to the very first super-hero in "Crisis on Infinite Earths" because Wolfman respected the character too much to kill him and using it as a loophole to bring the character back all gritty, edgy and morose. And to have him beaten to death in an oh-so-90s fashion on-panel for a cheap shock, on top of that? Makes me wish Wolfman really had killed him, he would have at least gotten a good death. Oh, well. At least Johns can't do anything worse to the character.
My reaction to this:
God, I was naive four years ago.

Hey has anyone heard if they're going to bring back Kyle Raynor's "dead in a refrigerator" girlfriend as a Black Lantern?
Mike Blake

Yeah, refrigerator girl or Katma Tui would be good ones.
(By the way, had the same posting problem with IE7, I think the problem comes from the site.)

Damn, that was a sneaky reveal.
Oh, and Gog didn't create Earth-Two, he just sent Power Girl there, you see it near the end of 52.

And the fridge girl was called Alex, but yeah, Katma makes more sense as she's experienced with a ring.

Ok it's obvious which candidates are going to be in the Black Lantern Corps
Aquaman
Martian Manhunter
Superboy Conner Kent
Superman Earth 2
Nekron
But what about some of these?
Maxwell Lord
Bruce Wayne (New God or not? hmm who knows)
Doomsday (the original)
Darkseid
And what about death cheaters, people who died but have come back to life? Scar says she has the power over life and death, so if you ever died does that count? Because if it does then we can add;
Donna Troy
Jason Todd
Kyle Rayner
Supergirl Crisis on Infinite Earths
The Question
Bart Allen (Now resurrected in the 31st Century)
Barry Allen (Was he dead, who knows)
Wonder Woman (she was returned to clay once)
Superman?
Hal Jordan?
There's others but what do you think?
