Interesting Kevin Huizenga News

Reader Owen sent me a link to where Kevin Huizenga announced that he is done with Or Else (Less than a month ago, in an interview with Brian Heater, Huizenga mentioned that Or Else #6 was half-done and soon to be released, but instead, the issue will not be released).

I'd say this was sad news except, I dunno, if he is still going to do comics and zines (and he says that he is), does it really matter if he does Or Else exactly?

One of the great things about Huizenga is how different his works are, even within the pages of Or Else itself he tried a bunch of different story ideas, so if he keeps doing different comics and zines, does this matter?

That's not rhetorical, by the way, I'm really curious if others feel that losing Or Else has some particular significance.

I can't help but wonder if Diamond's new minimum order policies have anything to do with this. :(

Kevin Huizenga is one of the most talented creators out there, and the cancellation of anything Huizenga is always sad.

Ummm ... The fact that I have no idea what OR ELSE even *is* probably means this is somehow all my fault, doesn't it?

I'm sorry, everybody.

I keep hearing great stuff about Kevin Huizenga. I saw the Ganges 2 review you did, it looked friggin awesome and I've been really meaning to get my hands on it, but it doesn't help that none of four comic shops I went to had it in stock (three of them didn't carry "that sort of thing" and the other was sold out). I'm sure I'll order it on the interwebs eventually, but I'd prefer the instant gratification of store-buying.

In answer to your question, while I'd love to see more Or Else, it's really just Kevin's work in general that I want.

I wonder how Huizenga decides what goes into OR ELSE, GANGES or a mini comic like FIGHT OR RUN? I just ordered a bunch of his mini comics from Buenaventure Press and I don't see the difference in a lot of his titles. I wouldn't mind just one "Kevin Huizenga presents COMICS" title or something like that.

I second Scott's comment. It's not as though OR ELSE had a consistent storyline, cast of characters, or even appearance or format -- every issue looked different from the last. I'll continue reading everything Huizenga does, however it's published and distributed.

Personally, I just want Huizenga to release another book in the same format as Curses. I'm so out of the idea of reading lit comix in smaller formats that I haven't bought any of his new material in ages, even though I think he's just about the best cartoonist in the world.

I think Huizenga's awesome, but I'm not a fan of the minicomic format of Or Else. So if he does more full-size comics - or, better yet, oversized like Ganges - then it's a good decision.
