Any "Best of..." list that doesn't include Usagi Yojimbo at least amongst Honorable Mention in the Best Ongoing Series has a definite lack.

I tried Young Liars. Didn't really like it, but after issue #7, I dropped it. That issue is utter crap. I am done reading Lapham's work.

So glad ZOT! has been reprinted.

Agree with Best Title!

Love the cover to Zorro #7.

Fell Award--Most definitely Planetary. Dammit, Ellis, get this done before I die, dammit! (Yes, 2 dammits, dammit.)

That cover on Shark-man #3 is THE AWESOME. It should be best cover of the year.

Have to agree with sgt. Rawk.
Jonah Hex was the best book consistently put out in '08. '07 also.

All right, I've been away from my computer for over 24 hours (I know, how did I survive?), so let's address the comments!

Dan: As far as I know, Casanova is still alive, but it's entirely dependent on when Marvel stops working Fraction so hard so he can write it again.

Brian: I haven't seen a lot of anything about Madame Xanadu. I glanced through the first issue but wasn't jazzed by it. I may have to flip through the trade.

David: I don't even count Planetary anymore. I imagine it will show up some time in the future, after we've all shuffled off this mortal coil, and all the new comic book readers won't buy it because they don't know anything about it.

sgt. rawk: Well, to each his own. I read a handful of early Jonah Hex stories and wasn't impressed. But that's just me!

Joe: Sorry! I put the spoiler warning at the top of the post, and then I made it bigger! That might have been the only big spoiler in the post, so I hope nobody got too mad.

Andrew: Thanks for the link about Kurosagi!

Bill: Yes, you might have no soul. Of course, I hate Owly with the heat of a thousand suns, so who am I to talk about people lacking souls? And I'm not sure if you have to be a history major to enjoy Northlanders. I enjoy it partly because of that, but not solely because of that.

Dalarsco: I don't like to focus on past years, mainly because there's so much good stuff from the current year! Berlin, however, comes out really slowly, so I thought I'd spotlight it, and Zot! was just so damned good. As for the two you mentioned, I might have highlighted those, but I already own the issues, so I didn't buy them! I may have to get them, though, because they look so darned cool.

Thom: Aetheric Mechanics counts, doesn't it????

>>Also: I don’t get Phonogram. I mean, I read the new one, and it did absolutely zip for me. Did I misplace my soul?

Signs point to "yes."

No love for Starman Omnibus vol 1 or Absolute Sandman vol 4? You mentioned multiple numbers in most categories, so why only one in the best collection category, especially when we saw a collection each of the two best ongoings in the history of comics, IMHO.

Also also: The first Northlanders trade was pretty good, and the art was purty, but it wasn't great. Does it get better? Should I buy the second trade when it comes out? I'm intrigued by this upcoming one-shot ish with Vasilis Lolos on art that's all aboot fighting, but that's because I want to buy a copy for my old fencing maestro. Er, anyway, I wasn't a history major. Does that help with enjoying Northlanders?

Ditto 'Planetary' being another "Fell" award winner.

Also, you asked about Kurosagi Corpse's status. This is from Ed Chavez's 2008 review of Dark Horse's manga line over at Manga Cast- http://mangacast.net/?p=2422

DH will catch up with Kurosagi this summer and the magazine that title runs in just got killed off in Japan leaving the title on hold until it moves to another magazine.

So expect volumes 8 and 9 in 2009, but probably a bit of a wait after that until the publishing situation in Japan gets caught up...

Good read, Greg and I agree almost entirely with your decisions. At least when you're talking about something I've actually read, which isn't all that often to be honest. But I agree with you on the best ongoing series as I'm a fan of all 5.

So Maxim dies in Godland, huh? I read that in the Celestial editions, don't know if anyone else that reads the site does too. Might want to throw a spoiler warning around it, I inadvertently read it and kind of wish I hadn't.

Ya know, I dig DareDevil, I've enjoyed this title ever since it's relaunch, I don't really follow She-Hulk but those Deodato covers are rockin! I'm a bit surprised that "ECHO" didn't make your list, you may be right about Lesbian Pirates from Outer Space but I was leaning towards the canceled Jailbait Zombie. later!
