Gaiman and Allred on Metamorpho – Awesome!

Now that’s a cool little piece of news, no? Remy Minnick just found it out (read the piece here). Neil Gaiman will be writing a 12-page Metamorpho story with art by Mike Allred.

Awesome.

That is guaranteed to be awesome.

What backs up that guarantee? One word: Prez.

Oh, and six more words: the rest of their entire careers.

I am anxious for more details about the entire project. An over-sized Allred original project for DC sounds awesome in and of itself, and adding Gaiman into the mix just kicks it up a notch.

Ahh, Prez. I would love to see a Prez OGN from that pair, though I doubt it would ever happen.

Only 12 pages? I’m all for it, but that seems skimpy.

OTOH, 12 Giant size pages as part of a bigger project sounds about right.

So not only do we get a Gaiman story drawn by Allred, but it’s part of a giant-sized Allred Special, probably featuring stories by even more great writers? Score!

Oh, YEAH!

I don’t know if Gaiman would be my first choice for a Metamorpho story (though Allred is a great pick). Gaiman is about myth and despite the “mythic” origin Metamorpho is really tied to the classic science hero style. That doesn’t mean that Gaiman won’t tell a great story, just a mismatch.

Ummm, Metamorpho gets his powers from Ra, the eygptian god of the sun, so I’m not seeing the science hero stuff. Gaiman devotes an issue to dealing with Metamorpha (I think that was her name) in Sandman. She is a female version of Metamorpho. So I don’t doubt Gaiman.
I’m curious what other writers will be involved. I could really dig an Alldred drawn Legion story. Or Flash could be cool.

I really wish we could get some more original work from Gaiman rather than just these brief corporate projects. His last few projects for Marvel have been underwhelming, and I’m not too excited about the two Batman issues.

Gaiman had that awesome Element Girl story in Sandman.

In an utterance: Woot!

In a word: Sold.

Gaiman wrote a fantastic Element Girl story though, granted, it played up the myth and down the science aspects of the character.

*sigh* This what you get for having the page open too long before posting…

“Ummm, Metamorpho gets his powers from Ra, the eygptian god of the sun, so I’m not seeing the science hero stuff.”

To quote myself, “despite the ‘mythic’ origin”. Gaiman changed it from a radioactive meteorite to the power of an ancient god for the Element Girl story. As for the science hero stuff, he’s “The Element Man”. His schtick is chemistry and it’s been central to a lot of the stories he’s been part of.

And to reiterate I won’t automatically discount a Gaiman story, as noted he did the Element Girl story in Sandman, it’s just that Gaiman’s thing is myth not science. I’d be a lot more excited to see him writing Captain Marvel, Wonder Woman, or even Superman (who in the sixties would have been a mismatch but these days they’re focusing more on the myth); they’re just more aligned to style.

Sounds cool.

Maybe it’s for a new Bizarro graphic novel?

12 pages ?!?

Why couldn’t it have been 12 issues?

That would be sooooooooooo much better.

Sold like a mofo!
Allred doing any Silver Age DC character is worth its weight in gold. And Gaiman giving him the scripts… criupes, can we just give them Eisners now?

I can’t possibly imagine how this could not be good. I want to know more about this oversized Allred project.

Echoing someones thoughts above, not sure Neil Gaiman is my first choice to write a Metamorpho story but Mike Allred may well be my first choice of artist. Just get that Metamorpho, one of my all time favourites is getting a high profile, if low page count, showing. Gotta love that character.

Sounds pretty dope.

That will probably be awesome, yes’m.
