Comics Are Awesome: Part the 16th
I can’t explain it, but this cover just makes me laugh and laugh.
A Month of Writing Stars – Fred Chao
Every day this month I’m going to feature a current comic book writing “star,” someone who I think is a very good writer. I’m mostly going to try to keep from the biggest names as much as possible, because, really, do I need to talk more about the awesomeness of Alan Moore, Neil Gaiman and [...]

Appropo in regards to recent conversations here, the Mindless Ones have a good piece up about the recent issue of Final Crisis (and from my birthday no less!). Theirs is a great blog worth reading often. And Bob Temuka’s Tearoom of Despair is starting off really well. Love and Rockets and Flex Mentallo already!

I was quite surprised to see that Bob Schreck, only one of the most acclaimed editors in the comic industry, was let go by DC Comics today. I’ll remember Schreck for his great work at Oni Press, his hiring of both Greg Rucka on Detective Comics as well as Ed Brubaker on Batman and, of [...]
Some Radical reviews
- by Greg Burgas
- in Comic Reviews
Not “radical” in the sense that they’re wildly different than other reviews, but “radical” in the sense that these are two comics by that publisher. You see what I did there? That’s me, Mr. Clever!

Tom Ewing fills everyone who wants to know the answer to that question in, at Pitchfork*: Thrills were what 2000AD traded in. It even calls individual stories “thrills” and its stated goal is the delivery to its readers of “thrill-power.” Every British comic started in the 1970s and 80s had its own jargon, designed to [...]

Never let it be said I didn’t use proper grammar. Also, never let it be said that I didn’t blatantly steal ideas from my own readership. Wait. No. I want that said. Anyhoo, this thread on our forum gave me an idea for a post. We’re all in our “Best of ’08″ food comas by [...]

Manga Before Flowers — The Short Good-Bye
One of the joys of manga is that most series have definitive end-points. There is pleasure in being able to say a proper good-bye to favorite characters or good riddance to the ones that made you curse and throw the book across the room. Go! Comi recently finished releasing two of its best series, After [...]
