Excellent! (& I’ve never even read SCOTT PILGRIM, though my liking for O’Malley’s art in one or more back issues of HOPELESS SAVAGES has me intrigued …)

I must lack the Scott Pilgrim gene.

It’s true. The New Scott Pilgrim is out this week. As a fan of the capes and tights books, though, I’m not sure what’s wrong with my liking the Avengers AND Scott Pilgrim…

I lol’ed.

Or I would have lol’ed, except that Marissa would hunt me down and snark me out for reducing my response to an internet anagram.

Absolutely nothing wrong with liking both Scott Pilgrim and the Avengers. I don’t think this strip was trying to imply that, either. Instead, it was more aimed at super-hero fans who are dismissive jerks about anything that’s NOT capes and tights.

@Neal K – There’s plenty of their opposites too….

(i.e., “dismissive jerks about anything that’s IS capes and tights”)

Why can’t we all just get along? :-)
(Hypothetical, jokey question. Please don’t respond to that.)

Yeah, let’s get defensive about something that we expect somebody else to think.

Are there actually people like the guy in this strip? The only ones I know about have exactly the opposite view of superhero comics.

what are you talking about? who is this snark even directed toward?

The sales figures would certainly indicate that there are, wouldn’t they?

I was definitely that dude, but I will be picking up vol.1 after reading countless reviews, and good praises.

There’s a guy like that who works in my comic book store. I keep trying to convince him to try ‘Scott Pilgrim’.

It’s not like I’m asking him to read ‘Blankets’ or ‘Maus’ or something. ‘Scott Pilgrim’ has fight scenes, Nintendo references, all the stuff guys in their twenties love. But he refuses to touch it because of some perceived indie stigma. Blows my mind.

Good strip, by the way.

Really liking the slicker art here. Nice job, guys.

Thanks, I altered my drawing style a little over the last few strips I drew.

I also when we went to no vertical limit, I switched the font to one point size larger so it is easier to read.

that was pretty good

It’s directed at the preemptive defensiveness about liking superhero comics and the explanation that there are people out there who criticize others for liking superhero comics.

Don’t make me spell everything out for you, T.

I wanna go to which ever comic shop you go to…

Don’t make me spell everything out for you, T.

Actually Dan, that was pretty obscure – that guy was pretty far from the normal defensiveness around here.

Maybe don’t assume that a comment you make is as clear to everyone else as it is to you.

This strip is about how Scott Pilgrim is awesome.

Because it is.

Awesome.

Scott Pilgrim is awesome because it is a Superhero comic disguised as an independent “high brow” comic. He fights video game style and must defeat many ex-boyfriends who each have superpowers in order to win his love. That sounds very Avenger-ish to me!

When the hell does/has Scott Pilgrim ever disguised itself as highbrow?

Scott Pilgrim has a lot more in common with manga than super-heroes in that it’s a mix of people with powers fighting, a romance, humor, and slice-of-life all rolled into one.

I just couldn’t get into Scott Pilgrim. The only thing I really liked in it was Mr Silly’s shoes.

I think it really stands out, the strip has never looked better.
