A Bit of a Jonah Hex Apology

During the discussion of the February Solicitations, I made a comment about David Michael Beck's cover to Jonah Hex #40, about how it appeared as though it had computer effects.

David stopped by to explain that there were no computer effects, and with the book's release today, I only thought it fair to point out the correction in its own entry. Sorry for mistake, David!

In my "defense," the solicited copy looks quite a bit different than the published cover (in my estimation). In the published cover, it is quite clear that it is just an old-scool oil painting.

EDITED TO ADD: Read after the fold to see the solicited cover!

The actual cover is much less shiny, which is what made me think it looked like computer effects were used.

Umm... As another detractor of the Jonah Hex cover in that month's cover review, I too hereby apologise.

I will however blame DC's scanners and Photoshoppers for making the preview image LOOK like it had originated in Photoshop...

It's not often you get to see proper oil-painted covers, good to see it's still going. Sorry.

JONAH HEX is the best monthly series out there, people. The Best, Jerry, the Best!

Why not re-post both covers in this thread?

Marginally related: I am a magazine editor, and a Hollywood stringer recently sent me a pitch to do a story on Josh Brolin, for the upcoming movie JOHNNY HEX.

It really is the best comic out there, and decidedly more honest about the way of life back then than we've seen before many western comics. C'mon people, buy it! I don't want to to get cancelled.

Hm, I wonder which feature the original comments were in...?

(C'mon, Brian, we need our avenue to make bad jokes about Ed Benes covers!)

Jonah Hex and Scalped are my two favorite ongoing series... I used to love it when they would come out on the same day: that was my "Cowboys & Indians Wednesday."

"JONAH HEX is the best monthly series out there, people."

Hear, hear!!!

"C’mon people, buy it! I don’t want to to get cancelled."

YES! YES!!!

Not only is it a great read with great art it's NOT tied in with any stupid multi-issue-crossover-crapfest!!!!!!

AND
It's mostly self-contained stories, so it's really easy to jump onboard...

Why not re-post both covers in this thread?

I didn't have a scan of the new cover, so it seemed weird to show just the one.

But fair enough, I can always add the original cover to the piece!

next mission: get the new cover, so we can compare. You're halfway there!
