Well, I suppose *someone* has to admire us, right? :D We have gone back and forth on this before, so I'll just say: Thank you. :) And I appreciate being in the company of those who make me strive to do my best.

The standards set by me? Ha! Your ability to see the deeper emotional themes of works continually makes me 1) envious and 2) strive to be better myself. We're just a mutual admiration society 'round here! :)

Danielle, thank you so much! I'm so happy to be here. Of course, it's easy to write a review of something I love as much as Mushishi. I hope I can live up to the standard set here by you and Michelle!

Something my husband and I have debated about regarding Mushishi is the question of whether or not it's okay for someone like Ginko to decide that a human's life is more important than the life of a mushi and so on. And of course, I'm not sure it is, though it's hard to fault a species for choosing its own over another. I'm sure the mushi aren't wrestling with the moral implications of fighting for their own survival. In any case, I love reading a series that forces me to think about things like that.

Beautiful review, Melinda! You've really done an amazing job relating the world of "Mushishi" to the reader and show us why this is such a fine manga title.

My favorite line: What’s extraordinary about Mushishi is the way in which mangaka Yuki Urushibara uses stories of non-human entities to more deeply explore the complexity and inconsistency of humanity. Because it expresses what is the core of the story for me, the strange ways mushi and human can influence each other, the beauty and the tragedy that can occur when they do.

Welcome to the blog and I look forward to seeing your reviews here very much!
