Love the last panel, it kinda reminds me of how Suda 51 might have approached making a Watchmen game. It's safe to say this would still be a better game than the shovelware garbage that's currently being made for the Wii.
Has it even had a noteworthy "game" since Wii Sports came out? Outside of Mad World, I can't even think of anything interesting being announced for at least a year.

Dave, you mentioned Suda51 and then ask if there's been a good Wii game since Wii Sports? Have you not played No More Heroes? Yeesh.
Also, hilarious strip.

Fantastic work.
I hope that they don't make some generic FPS out of the movie. It's probably to much to hope for.

I guess that's not too bad. I mean it could be a lot worse. Kind of like the movie itself (or to be more accurate what I've seen and heard about the movie).

That was awesome, in every single panel. Best top to bottom strip yet. I'd heard a WATCHMEN game was being done as a tie-in to the movie, but couldn't put my finger on why it sounded wrong. this hit every single target.
Great job, Sean and Brandon!

Probably extermely funny if you know anything about games. Which I don't -- never have devoted a single second to playing. Oh, well.

Well, I have read WATCHMEN, but I must admit I was far from bowled over. I put it *several* notches below V FOR VENDETTA, for instance.

Game:a competitive activity involving skill, chance, or endurance. In the video game realm, a player usually has to complete a set of tasks to advance to the next level in the game, each level becoming more difficult and building to some final confrontation with the "boss", and defeating this boss means you've won the game. There are sometimes "instruction booklets" explaining some of the "tools" the player uses to make it through each level.
Seriously, I can't go further with this. Your original post was just breathtakingly pointless (meaning "it takes my breath away", in case you've never devoted a single second to the word), and I am seriously don't understand what your follow-up has to do with this strip or your original post.

Anyone with a brain -- a category that apparently doesn't include you, though the fact that you could type a bunch of words correctly & in order gives us all a smidgen of hope -- could surmise that I was referring to computer &/or video-gaming ... which, truthfully, I've never engaged in at all. Nope, not a single second. Honest!
As for my follow-up, it was just as obviously a reply to FunkyGreenJerusalem's response to my post. Admittedly, I referred to him as "FGJ," for which I abjectly apologize -- it's pretty clear that abbreviations are yet another of the near-infinite number of concepts you're not advanced enough to grasp. Again, we all live in hope that maybe someday you'll get there. Keep trying!

And I see this idiot site yet again didn't pick up my name. Is there *some* way this can be fixed? I'm certainly not the only one experiencing it, regardless of what browser we use.

And *again*. Apparently, one of the morons responsible for helping wreck the Newsarama site has gotten involved in messing this one up as well.

February 25, 2009 at 8:03 pm
Well that's more your business, your opinion of the work has little to do with the strips gags - I'm just saying that if you've read Watchmen, and can imagine the concept of a Watchmen game, then you've got all you need to know to laugh at his strip.
I mean I don't have a drivers license, but I still know about driving etc
Also, I showed a guy I work with who hasn't read Watchmen the strip, and he laughed - although he took 'you lost 35 minutes ago' to be more a 'life sucks' type theme.
He'll learn.
Dan Bailey
February 25, 2009 at 10:44 pm
But see, that's the problem. I can't really "imagine the concept of a Watchmen game," because any game that's not played ... I dunno ... 52-card decks or game boards or balls happens to be foreign to my experience. Would you, as a non-driver, get every nuance if I tried to make some joke about standard transmissions vs automatics? Maybe so ... maybe not.
I have no doubt that this particular installment of the strip is excellent (everyone else's reaction certainly indicates that). I'm just saying that because of my own areas of ignorance, most of it's lost on me. Why that's apparently some sort of crime against humanity (not that *you're* the one acting like it is), I'm not sure.
I do know that 9 times out of 10, I've liked the strip a lot.

You know, when I saw some of the production shots of this strip many months ago I just knew it was going to suck. I was so confident it would suck that I proceeded to describe just how much in the 42906 post strong (and counting) "Comic Critics #40: Sucky Strip, or the Suckiest Strip?" thread at CBR.
But now? Hurm...
(Great job guys, loved this one.)

There you go, instead of playing a Wii, pretend it's a board game or a an RPG (I've never played a pen and paper RPG, but I've gathered the basics over the years).
But just to be clear, like people who get scared of Scott Pilgrim because it references computer games (a complaint I've never understood as it's a lot more about music than games), I think you're more worried about missing something in there due to not having played videogames than you actually are.
'Press A to jump, B to punch, Z to break smallest bone in man's hand' really gives you all the info you need to know, for instance, as does the kid getting sadder and sadder as he plays.
I'm actually surprised there aren't comments here saying 'where are the usual characters? Is Marissa a boy in the future? Who are these characters - I can't laugh if I don't know everything about them' etc.
I'm proud of y'all!
Dan Bailey

I've never played an RPG in any format, either, but your points are well taken.

FGJ - I had the same initial reaction, but the joke really doesn't work with familiar characters. We can assume that any of the critics would know enough about Watchmen to get the jokes as they play the game. This is more of a one-off than a story arc, although I'd love to see an arc about more casual comic fans reacting to the deeper stuff.
