I can’t really “imagine the concept of a Watchmen game,” because any game that’s not played … I dunno … 52-card decks or game boards or balls happens to be foreign to my experience.

There you go, instead of playing a Wii, pretend it's a board game or a an RPG (I've never played a pen and paper RPG, but I've gathered the basics over the years).

But just to be clear, like people who get scared of Scott Pilgrim because it references computer games (a complaint I've never understood as it's a lot more about music than games), I think you're more worried about missing something in there due to not having played videogames than you actually are.
'Press A to jump, B to punch, Z to break smallest bone in man's hand' really gives you all the info you need to know, for instance, as does the kid getting sadder and sadder as he plays.

I'm actually surprised there aren't comments here saying 'where are the usual characters? Is Marissa a boy in the future? Who are these characters - I can't laugh if I don't know everything about them' etc.

I have no doubt that this particular installment of the strip is excellent (everyone else's reaction certainly indicates that). I'm just saying that because of my own areas of ignorance, most of it's lost on me. Why that's apparently some sort of crime against humanity (not that *you're* the one acting like it is), I'm not sure.

I do know that 9 times out of 10, I've liked the strip a lot.

Well that's more your business, your opinion of the work has little to do with the strips gags - I'm just saying that if you've read Watchmen, and can imagine the concept of a Watchmen game, then you've got all you need to know to laugh at his strip.
I mean I don't have a drivers license, but I still know about driving etc
Also, I showed a guy I work with who hasn't read Watchmen the strip, and he laughed - although he took 'you lost 35 minutes ago' to be more a 'life sucks' type theme.
He'll learn.

Anyone with a brain -- a category that apparently doesn't include you, though the fact that you could type a bunch of words correctly & in order gives us all a smidgen of hope -- could surmise that I was referring to computer &/or video-gaming ... which, truthfully, I've never engaged in at all. Nope, not a single second. Honest!

As for my follow-up, it was just as obviously a reply to FunkyGreenJerusalem's response to my post. Admittedly, I referred to him as "FGJ," for which I abjectly apologize -- it's pretty clear that abbreviations are yet another of the near-infinite number of concepts you're not advanced enough to grasp. Again, we all live in hope that maybe someday you'll get there. Keep trying!

Game:a competitive activity involving skill, chance, or endurance. In the video game realm, a player usually has to complete a set of tasks to advance to the next level in the game, each level becoming more difficult and building to some final confrontation with the "boss", and defeating this boss means you've won the game. There are sometimes "instruction booklets" explaining some of the "tools" the player uses to make it through each level.
