Comic Book Legends Revealed - The Book!

In case you did not know this already, Plume Books (a division of Penguin Books) is publishing a collection of my Comic Book Legends Revealed columns (half "best of"/half new stuff) and it is due out on April 28th.

Here is the cover by artist Mickey Duzyj. I think he did a very nice job (click to enlarge)...

If you'd like to pre-order it, you can use the following code if you'd like to send me a bit of a referral fee...

Congrats Brian! I will be picking this up.

Brian, Been reading your urban legends since you started. Never commented but you always help the work day go by. Preordering this book ASAP. Congrats my friend!

Congratulations, Brian!!!

If you want a Brazilian version of the book, give me a call!!!! ;)

Wow, I had no idea this was happening. Congrats! I'll have to pick up a copy.

Congrats BC. Good on ya.

Pre-ordered!

I had said to myself that if you ever put out a book with the Legends I would buy it, and you did so... i'm buying. Eleven bucks isn't much, also, even for me that one dollar is 3 pesos, so many people should buy this.

Congratulations for the publication, what DaveOMac said stands for me as well, you always help the workday go by, and Comic Book Legends Revealed has always been a highlight of the site, you certainly deserved this.

Wow! The cover is really excellent. Congratulations!

At last! Revealed to the world! But it's totally going to overshadow my Selective Selleck: Best of the Sexy calendar, now. Dang.

Excellent. I'll defo be picking up a copy. Nice one

OMG Brian this is so awesome. I just pre-ordered with your code. CONGRATS!!!

Congratulations, Brian!

Dude! Awesome!

Also: that cover is fantastic!

Will Mr. Dido be providing any reviews or quotes for the dust cover? ; )

I appreciate your column.

CONGRATS, BRIAN!!! That cover is awesome! If you need someone to review it, just lemme know ;-)

I love the cover - it's appropriately commercial and looks "comic-booky" on the stands, but nicely avoids "Pow! Zap! Wham!" type clichés. Pre-ordered!

That's great congrads Brian. I'll definitely be picking it up at some point. Maybe Zack Snyder can make a movie adaption of the book his next task after Watchmen.

Awesome. I'll certainly pre-order it.

... wait, "half" new stuff? You've been holding out on us! :)

Ditto everyone above - well done Brian & I've preordered too!

I've had the fortune to read the galley of this and it is really the top notch work that you'd expect from Brian. It's been hard keeping this under my hat.

Love the cover.

Who broke this story MONTHS ago but then hushed it up. Hmmmmm?

Seriously, congrats, Brian.

Congratulations on getting published, Brian. The book design looks excellent, and I look forward to having it in my hands.

Cool, right now you're the #4 seller in the "Superman" category, behing ASS 1 & 2 and Red Son. Not too shabby.

I have pre-ordered it and plugged it on the other site I spend time. Best wishes!

Congrats! That's awesome news, and I'll be sure to pick it up.

Neat!

How much retooling have you done to the columns as they appeared here? I imagine you would have taken out stuff like 'reader so-and-so asked'. Were you able to get clearances for all the artwork?

Congrats!

Awesome... and yes the cover is great

Glad the gag order's finally off. Looking forward to it.

Cool, right now you’re the #4 seller in the “Superman” category, behing ASS 1 & 2 and Red Son. Not too shabby.

Woah, now it's just ASS #2 ahead of the book! That's pretty neat.

I'll definitely pick it up. Is there a referral link for amazon.ca? Ordering it from the American site will end up costing me twice as much thanks to shipping.

They just gave me an American one, AG, so just use your Canada one. But I appreciate you asking!

I remember rumblings about a book some months ago in the comments but then never heard about it again. But here it is. Congrats on the book, Brian!

The "can't miss" post of the week is now my "can't miss" book of the summer! I have pre-ordered mine!

Congratulations!

Awesome. Can't wait for that. Congrats Brian!

Just pre-ordered it myself. I first came here because of the column back in the pre-CBR days. Congratulations Brian.

Great news! Congratulations!

Awesome news! Congrats!

Congrats man! Legends Revealed is my favorite comics related article on the planet! I'll be picking this up for sure. Thanks for all your hardwork and for the entertainment man.

Like others have mentioned here, never made the effort to drop a note but I do enjoy the column.

One of the few comic related books that I intend to order. Good job.

Yea!!! I'm so glad to see this announcement...can't wait to learn about these "legends" of which you write. ;-)

Congratulations. Great column--a book was definitely in order!

This is brilliant news! That cover is gorgeous.

It'll be a fun day when i can sell this at my bookstore. I'll tell everyone- Yeah, i know that guy.

Fantastic news, Brian, congratulations! I'm gonna get it as soon as I decide what else to buy to get the free shipping.

That's awesome, congrats!

I pre-ordered - book looks great. Congrats Brian!

This is just volume one right?

Can't wait.

Great news!! Can't wait for it.

Congrats Brian. :D

Peace.

Good for you Brian! Well deserved and really looking forward to buying my copy. Congratulations!

And I love the cover!

Congratulations, Brian! I'll have to get a copy.

my most honest congratulatuions, brian. i'm afraid the distribution market pretty much sucks here in colombia (so stuff ends up at three or four times of it original prize), but if I catch this somewhere, I'll buy it :)

Also, Brian, I await the inevitable sequel: "The Case of the Phantom Penis... and even more Comic Book Legends Revealed!"

Also also, can you use comics as a tax write-off now?

Aha! Was preparing to market this part of the reason -- or the main reason -- for dropping the "Urban" part of the column's name? Enquiring minds want to know! (And congrats and good luck with it.)

I visit this site twice a day. When I log on and see a new "Legends" is up, a smile crosses my face. I know I will have a good read. I wish they were twice as long. 'Grats dude.

Nice.

Shit, I live in Brazil, will have to wait until my next trip to the US. By the way, any ideas of putting this baby abroad?

Congrats on being published! I appreciate and marvel at the effort you put out each week in your well researched and well written column (in addition to the all the other articles you contribute). Definitely will purchase... about time you get some more financial compensation for the good work you've been doing!

...The "half new stuff" should really contain some fun dirt, Brian. Stuff like:

Q: "Is it true that the reason Dan Didio's screwing up DC so bad is that he lost his hair because of a Superman comic, and is seeking vengeance?"

A: " Can you think of any other reason?"

Congratulations, Brian.

So, when can we expect the VH1 version? :D

Hey, comics is about the only thing they haven't exploited for Tv specials yet. Or have they?

Congratulations Brian!!! I'm going to pick up a copy for sure.

And yeah, that is a great cover.

Long time reader, never said a word. Your site has kept me sane when I was on a boat in the middle of nowhere. Now in law school and the bit of joy i find is from your postings, cheers.

[...] has all that and a stunning cover as well. I suggest that you get it, or at the very least, read Comic Book Urban Legends Revealed (which this book will publish in print, so it actually becomes reality and not an interweb belch). [...]

that cover is so cool...

i might pick it up...

Can I get this through Diamond (i.e. my local comic shop)? I'm sure I would have ordered it had I seen it in the Previews...

I pre-ordered mine from amazon this morning. I've enjoyed your blog way too long for free not to support this endeavor. Good job, sir!

Congrats!

I don't know whether I'm more impressed or jealous. The only book I ever had my name on was the instructor's manual for a political science prof's local government textbook when I was a grad student in Tempe about 25 years ago. Not *quite* the same thing ...

That is supremely cool. Those Comic Book Legends Revealed need more attention. And the cover is great.

Congratulations, Brian!

Fantastic! At long last!

Pre-ordered through your link, and let me know if I can help somehow with letting the world know (besides the obvious telling people at all my sites)

I can't wait for the extended comment section at the end discussing the proper use of trademarks v copyrights v patents!

congrats Brian I will be picking this up

Consider it bought. I enjoy your column every week. I hope your hard work pays you back.

Sold. Possibly twice as a gift.

Congrats!

Big congrats Brian.

Brian,

Let me add my congratulations as well.

I'll be ordering a copy (thanks to Blackjak for the amazon.co.uk link).

If I hadn't found a random link to "urban legends" in Google, I would never have come across your excellent "Comics Should Be Good" site.

This site and your book makes me happy - I prefer to read about comics than read comics these days. For those Proustian moments.

Just ordered it through your link. Can't wait to receive it. Nice work. Congratulations.

no Kindle version.... :(

no Kindle version…. :(

Is that something they'd know about already?

Also, thanks to everyone for all the kind words and well wishes!

Wow, sure, I'll buy this.

That's great! Congratulations!

I'm currently reading through five-plus shelves of unread books I already own, and I've promised myself I won't buy a new one until they're all finished. But this is officially the top of my list for new books to buy.

Gratz Brian!

Of course now I hope it actually comes in when they said it will, so I can buy it as a Birthday present for a Comic Book fan I know.
