I wouldn’t say that he completely has no feel for superheroes. He’s done X-Force/X-Statix, JLA: Kid Amazo and a run on Detective Comics that were all very good.

God, I loved this book. Peter Milligan is easily the most underrated writer in comics. His problem is that he has no feel for the superhero genre, so he’s never had a big run a la Grant Morrison on JLA. I would say that his Vertigo work is easily the equal of better known guys like Morrison, Ennis, Ellis, ect.

I was lucky enough to pick up the entire run for a good price a few years back at the Beguiling here in Toronto.

I wasn’t buying many newish books back then – but I always liked to concept of the Human Target. I was totally sucked in and plowed through the whole stack in no time. I’ve re-read it since, and it held up quite nicely.

Dude: Elektra is the supreme example of Bad Milligan. I’d throw X-Men in there as well, although that’s more Mediocre Milligan than anything.

I’ve yet to read this one but after reading the entire run of Shade, The Changing Man I’ll definitely give it a try. (Although after Kathy died, the book suffered a lot, it made up for it with the ending)

Can you give me some examples of Bad Milligan? It’s still a bit too soon to judge his Hellblazer.

Another great profile!

I had a chance to read the HUMAN TARGET pilot script. It’s…a decent show, but it’s not HUMAN TARGET. It’s more of a “Chance tries to figure out who the assassin is” type of show, without the disguises and indentity crises. In other words, that which is COOL about Miligan’s stuff. But I’ll watch the pilot, because it’s got Mark Valley and Chi McBride and JACKIE EARLE HALEY, who really needs to fire his agent. Seriously, you follow up your gig in WATCHMEN with second lead in a Fox series?

Basically, this is 24 meets HOUSE — everyone has secrets, but Christopher Chance is gonna make sure you don’t die for ‘em!

I’ve always thought the first 4-issue mini was the best of the entire series. Maybe I’m biased because I really liked the artist Edvin Biukovi? (who died after this series).

Seriously GOOD Milligan.
I loved each issue from the mini, the OGN and the ongoing. Nothing short of wonderful. Perhaps one, if not the best hidden gem from Vertigo.

Well, Good Milligan usually means Great Milligan. So yeah, I’ll accept that.

It would be nice if they did the series well. It could work perfectly on television.

“Good Milligan”? I’d say this is GREAT Milligan!

I’m amazed that Human Target isn’t one of the DC properties being developed for the screen, though… The miniseries in particular could be shot virtually as it is on the page.

Actually, I just looked it up and it turns out The Human Target is coming to TV.

Great news… The bad news is that it’s on Fox, so it’ll probably last as long as the last, Rick Springfield-starred Human Target series. Harrumph.

I really wish DC would finish collecting this series. I waited for the trades and was really disappointed when they never materialized.
