		<description>This cartoon actually shows that the press was able to laugh at itself.  It is a brilliant piece.  By the way, Mauldin was going to &quot;kill off&quot; Willie and Joe at the end of the war, but his syndicate told them that they would not distribute the panel.  It&#039;s good that they live on so Snoopy could quaff root beers with them on succeeding Memorial Days.</description>
