New Alan Brennert Novel!

Alan Brennert, one of the best writers working at DC during the 1980s, just came out with his latest novel. For those of you who recall how talented Brennert was, be sure to check it out at his website here.
Although, Alan, come on, throw us comic fans a bone! Not a single mention of your great comic work on your website? Brennert did not write a ton of comics (little more than a dozen stories, and that’s including some back-up stories he wrote), but what he DID write was just outstanding. Of his work, TWO of his Batman stories made the 1988 edition of The Greatest Batman Stories of All-Time trade collection, and a third Brave and the Bold story made the 1989 edition of The Greatest Team-Ups of All-Time collection.
Pretty amazing for a guy who wrote so relatively few comic books.

This site seems to list most, perhaps all, of Brennert’s comics work: http://www.panix.com/~bala/brennert.htm

Was “To Kill A Legend” in Detective 500 one of those stories? If not, then he’s written THREE of the Greatest Batman Stories of All Time.
I’d also include the Batman / Hawk and Dove team-up from 1981 in the greatest team-up stories. Totally messed up everyone’s continuity, but it was a wonderful story about Hawk and Dove which wrapped up the 1960s series (and confronted the issues of the ’60s in the ’80s) in a lovely way– The Big Chill before The Big Chill.
Brennert only did about one story a year from about ’79-’83 but they were all really good stories. By his last one, I considered his annual sojourn an Event with a capital E.

He was a brilliant comic book writer. Obviously he had other interests, or he would be widely recognized as an all-time great. Holy Terror is, far and away, my favorite Elseworlds book.

Yeah, it’s “To Kill a Legend” and “Autobiography of Bruce Wayne”.
The ending of To Kill a Legend is one of the best endings for a comic story that I’ve ever read.

His Daredevil story with Klaus Janson about Ben Urich was quite excellent (just after the incredible Miller run).

Brave and the Bold #197 is such an amazing story. I read it in the Greatest Batman Stories Ever Told trade paperback… and re-read it, and re-re-read it, and so on. It’s one of my all time favorite Batman stories. I was really happy to find a copy of the actual issue a few years back, and get it autographed by artist Joe Staton.
