Kiki: Thanks! Maybe if we all just keep talking about it, enough interest will be generated to get more published! :)

Ryan: Thank you! I envy your ability to read this in Japanese.

Great review. This is a wonderful manga! As you say, there's so much in it for it being almost a short story by manga standards. This was my first shojo and I followed it with A'A", thus forever dooming myself to disappointment as I eagerly searched the shelves for more Moto like stories. For whatever reason, the more psychological/anthropological sf manga didn't make a splash and so very little seemed to be published. I really wish more of her work would be translated. At least Vertical has published some of her fellow 49er's work and I have the THEY WERE 11 movie to enjoy.

What is difficult to appreciate now is just how revolutionary Hagio’s art (and that of the others in the Year 24 Group) was at the time, as she eschewed the standard rectangle panel layouts of the day for innovative designs that were as vital to the tone and emotion of the story as the characters’ dialogue and facial expressions.

Very well put, I always struggle to describe or explain the significance of the art in the manga I review and this is right on the nose.
