DC/Marvel Character Tourney – Region 1, Round 1 Winners!

The results are in for Round 1 of Region 1!

See who won!

Batman could have handled any Firestorm who was sent his way, 620-71. Batman got 90% of the vote, the highest winning percentage out of any character in the first round.

Jack Knight might as well have been his brother for how poorly he did against Kyle Rayner, in a #9 over #8 upset, 364-314. Kyle got 54% of the votes.

12th-seeded Darkseid relished his destruction of 5th-seeded Robin in the biggest upset of the tournament so far, 422-260. Darkseid got 62% of the vote.

Cyclops took out his aggression on She-Hulk for threatening the X-Men, 355-333. Cyclops got 52% of the vote.

Doctor Strange made sure that Morpheus received a wake, 365-316. Doctor Strange got 54% of the vote.

Jesse Custer had two eyes before Wolverine was finished with him, 439-239. Wolverine got 65% of the vote.

John Constantine made short work of Booster Gold in the third #10 over #7 upset of the tournament, 356-313. Constantine got 53% of the vote.

Doctor Doom easily won this particular duel of the titans with Namor, 517-163. Doom got 76% of the vote.

Ugh.
What’s WRONG with you people?
Poor Booster. Poor Jesse. Poor Dream. Poor She-Hulk. Poor Robin. Poor Starman.

I had a tough time with She Hulk / Cyclops but think I’ll have to call it an upset I was sure Jenn would take out old Slim, I knew Starman / Green Lantern could easily go either way, but thought it would be more of a nail biter. later!

Great first round. I must say my bracket is busted already though with Barry Allen out. I’m sure it’s gonna be that one girl from the office that wins the pool and knows absolutely nothing about comics!!!!

I’m not exactly a She-Hulk fan, but I don’t see how anyone can like Cyclops more than her. Cyclops is so boring.

I was really hoping that Jesse Custer would upset Wolverine. Fat chance, I know, but one can hope.

I am desperately sad that both Morpheus and Jack Knight got taken out by their lessers. And Death too. *sniff*

i’m reading starman for the first time with the omnibus series and it’s funny how Marz was totally aping Robinson. He was really trying to turn Kyle Rayner into Jack Knight and he did a very poor job of it.

Well overall I got 28 out of 32. I’m not sure whether I should be proud or ashamed of that.

Ugh…. Dream, Death, Spider Jerusalem, Custer, She-Hulk, Swamp Thing… I’ve got next to nobody left in this game.:(

Like both Kyle and Jack, but voted for Jack. Liked Robin, voted for Darkseid. Soooo glad that Cyclops got some loving over She-Hulk, and surprised that Dr. Strange won over Morpheus.

DOOM!!

GAH!
I missed the voting on this go-round.

While some of the results are disappointing, it’s good to see that Dr. Strange won handily.

;-)

That’s funny. I always thought Marz was trying to turn Kyle Rayner into Peter Parker. Everybody sees different things, I suppose.

NOT pleased that Jack Knight lost to such a mediocre character.

The difference, I’d say, is that he tried to make Kyle “cool” whereas Peter is intended as a dorky character.

I think a lot of these matches are being decided based on people voting for characters they’re familiar with. That’s the only way my brain can except guys like Dream and Jack Knight losing to Dr. Strange and Kyle Rainer. Not everybody’s read Starman and Sandman, but Kyle and Dr. Strange have been in most of their respective company’s top sellers at least a dozen times each.

“i’m reading starman for the first time with the omnibus series and it’s funny how Marz was totally aping Robinson.”

Except… Kyle pre-dates Jack by about half a year. Marz had the new status quo set up and ticking along nicely by the time the first Starman issue hit the stands.

(Although he did kind of fumble around with Kyle’s character for a bit before nailing it down – took him the better part of a year, if memory serves)
