I’ve never reread the series, so there may well be earlier hints that I now don’t remember. Like the memory saying goodbye to him, for example.

But yes, it’s interesting. He apparently even forgot he’d been to the shop before.

Hmmmm, I did have the impression earlier on that they were leaving him bit by bit (at least one even saying goodbye to him first) and so from his perspective, they might still be going. After all, they’d already started to go before the first volume begins. I might be very wrong about this, though!

I like “gentling” as a description.

Finally I’ve read this volume so I’ve been able to come read your review, which is awesome, as usual. I too love the… gentling of the relationship between Watanuki and Doumeki, and of Watanuki in general, really.

I didn’t think he was continuing to lose his memories, though. I thought he was just beginning to realize/question that they weren’t there.

I enjoyed the start of this series and Tsubasa, but ever since Tsubasa turned into dark and grim angst, it just wasn’t the same. And the revelations about Watanuki’s origins and the clone stuff… *sigh* I guess Clamp will be Clamp.

Oh wow. Beautiful review, of course, and the color image is just so heart-breaking. Now I reallllly want to do a ‘holic reread but I won’t have time until May probably. Wah!!!!
