Tough one… but Supes totally wins the foot race.

That would sort of mess with the whole “Fastest Man Alive” tag, wouldn’t it? And let’s not forget that the Flash has won every race against Superman that had a clear winner!

Go, Wally! Go!

“That would sort of mess with the whole “Fastest Man Alive” tag, wouldn’t it?”

Says nothing about Fastest Alien alive . . .

Man, I love that issue. One of the first comics I ever bought with my own money.

Go Wally!! Maybe DC should take note at how early Barry fell in the tourney.

Wow, Wally has a pretty solid lead as of this writing. Could be quite the upset in the making.

Well, Wally WAS the highest-ranked #2 seed.

That said, I doubt Wally will hold a 43 vote lead tomorrow at 6!

“Go Wally!! Maybe DC should take note at how early Barry fell in the tourney.”

I’ve thought of that as well, especially since Wally beat the same character that Barry lost to. Dan Didio seems to think there’s this movement to have the one true Flash brought back, and I honestly don’t think most people care. Actually, I think that Wally was the one 2nd (or 3rd) generation replacement hero that was accepted by the fans, and there was never any point in mucking that up. And I say this as a Barry Allen fan: let the man stay dead.

Good thing Johns is FINALLY settling who the fastest is once and for all in Reborn…

Supe’s wouldn’t stand a chance in a race…

“DC enjoys playing Flash head to head in speed competitions against Superman. While I’m partial to Flash, I do have to ask myself a few questions to accept the premise that there would be a chance that Superman could win. Just what is the nature of Superman’s power? As an alien Supes has dense muscle tissue and endurance enough to move at superhuman speed. His super dense tissue also serves as a means of protective invulnerability. On the other hand, I’ve never heard of Superman possessing a protective aura that shields him from high energy particle collision nor does the origin or nature of the two heroes’ powers remotely resemble one another. Invulnerability is one thing but alien skin without the benefit of superpowers that directly imposes on surrounding physics won’t get you anywhere near the speed of light. As a matter of fact, Superman’s run/flight would add to his mass – making it far more difficult for him to use mere muscle to compete. Let’s say that both Superman and Flash attain the speed of light – aren’t Superman’s powers fueled by our Sun? It’s my understanding that when Superman is exposed to energy radiated from a red sun, he is rendered powerless by our standards. If he is traveling faster than the radiated energy of the Sun then is he rendered powerless when traveling faster than light or perhaps he retains his powers until his body uses all the absorbed energy?”

If you actually take every “power” the flash has exhibited through the years, Superman couldn’t even win a fist fight. It’s been shown that not only is the Flash “untouchable” by vibrating his molecules out of sync with solid matter, it’s shown that he can disrupt matter in the process, causing it to explode. In short, he could cause Superman to explode upon contact. Or a million other unreasonable things. Honestly, in most matches the Flash is purposefully underpowered more than Superman just to make the fight fair.

(Thanks 1960s comic book pseudo science!)

The Post-Crisis Byrne Supes had a protective aura that extended only a little way outwards from his skin… so his (newly vulnerable) cape could (and frequently did) get ripped, but his body-hugging suit (newly just as vulnerable) suffered damage less frequently.

This is a toughie. I really need to think by what criteria I am judging for whom to vote.

Wally West is one of my favorite comics characters and will always be my Flash. I think this is true for the majority of fandom, considering the years (both in quantity and which years we’re talking about) he has been prominent. He’s also pretty unique in that he has been allowed to mature and grow within continuity – from legacy hero in the almost-as-popular-as-X-Men Teen Titans, to selfish solo hero at the (underrated) Baron/Guice launch of his book, to confident hero under Waid and finally selfless husband and father under Johns. That’s a lot of touchstones for the mid-to-late thirties comics audience.

This is shaping up to be a serious upset. The Flash over Superman? Really?

Go Wally!! Maybe DC should take note at how early Barry fell in the tourney.

Being in a virtual tie with the Thing despite being mostly dead for the last 20 years suggests that Barry is a popular character. While I don’t agree with the desire to bring him back to life, there is room for DC to use both characters if they want to do so.

Or to put it another way: I have no doubt that if Barry got 10 more votes in the first round that he would have won his second round match without much difficulty.

I voted for Super Man

Thok, do you really think that DC is going to continue to use Wally when Barry comes back? or is he just going to fade into the background and be a supporting character or a minor team player (I don’t doubt for a second that DC will have Wally lose his powers and be happy about it as it allows him to raise his kids without any outside interference, which is partially why I think they allowed his kids to continue living)

Voted for Wally. He already won the race in the comic anyway.

Wow. I wouldn’t think this would be even close, yet Flash is winning.

Sorry, don’t see the appeal.

“Sorry, don’t see the appeal.”

Wally’s one of the few characters in comics that was allowed to grow and change more or less organically. Having the reader along for the ride in his long-term heroes’ journey makes him a very likeable and relatable hero.

Not to mention, he’s had some of DC’s better creative teams guide him for years-long stretches.
It’s strange to think, DC’s been pretty good about making sure Wally became one of it’s best heroes — only to bring back Barry because Wally eclipsed him in the minds of so many fans.

Go the distance, Wally!

Wally West and Clark Kent are my two favorite characters. I voted Superman, but it does not bum me out to see Wally getting ready to advance.

Flash def wins the foot race.

Wally beating Ben Grimm and now possibly Superman makes baby Jesus cry.

Even though I LIKE Wally over Superman, I’d think Superman would win in it.

I can’t believe Wally’s six fans voted that many times? Barry Allen is the one true Flash! Way to rig a poll guys.
