Seriously? This is horrible. Cap was always a wimpy character. I could see the Ultimate Cap or New Cap Bucky pulling off the win, but this seems more like a pity win than anything else.

Cap a wimpy character!? My complete collection of the Avengers from the 80′s begs to differ. Way to go Cap!

Yes, much pity motivated people’s decisions in this personal-preference voting contest that has absolutely no effect on the characters or their creators. Marvel has started incorporating this fact into their sales strategy, readers grabbing Ultimatum by the stack because they feel bad for Jeph Loeb and all the characters he butchers.

Hal must have been handicapped by the weight of Geoff Johns’ man-crush.

Cass, that doesn’t even remotely make sense.

What exactly is wimpy about punching Hitler?

Cap has zero powers. Hal Jordan could kill him with just a thought.

“Cap has zero powers. Hal Jordan could kill him with just a thought.”
So could Thanos, but that didn’t stop Cap from getting in his face.

It’s not very good, I admit, but nonsensical, really? What doesn’t make sense?

Dying and having a cool successor with a crappy costume > one-punching Batman and Fuchsia Lanterns. Or beating the Joker in a geek poll = DIE, DIE, DIE, DIE Hal Jordan

Hal Jordan, the fifth most interesting Green Lantern vs Captain America and it was only a 58% fight?

Fifth most is stretching it. I mean, after Guy and G’Nort and Kilowog and Mogo and Kyle and John and Katma Tui and Sinestro and Tomar Re and the F-Sharp Bell and…
Yeah, Cap had this one in the bag.

Yeah, Cass, I gotta back him up on this. That was pretty incoherent.

Dang. I guess I have to concede defeat then. I’ll try to explain (though this might be more confusing and will certainly be more boring).
The first commenter said that Cap won out of pity. To me, that makes no sense, because Brian’s Tourney is a popularity contest with fictional characters, and fans will vote for who they like, not who they dislike and/or find pitiable. So, epically failing, I tried to sarcastically agree with this commenter, speciously supporting his point by saying that Marvel was capitalizing on reader’s pity-motivated actions by putting out the Ultimatum comic, which is so bad the “only” explanation (facetiously) for its popularity is that people are buying it out of pity.
Wow that IS really confusing now that I’ve written it out. Oops

I think part of the confusion is coming from some commenters treating this as a “Who’d win in a fight?” contest and some as a popularity contest.

When in fact, it’s an any criteria you want to use contest.

Wait, is Hal Jordan alive and Captain America dead? The world is a strange place…
Stupid Hal Jordan.

Jordan, to me, as he is now, is a cipher. He’s a pulp hero like John Carter. He doesn’t develpop. He doesn’t provide any interesting character questions. Everything happens around him and he reacts. He’s an old fashioned pulp action hero. Some people go for that. It drives me nuts.

“Cap has zero powers”
REALLY??? Since when? Super-Soldier Formula doesn’t count??

The Doctor: even if this were a “who would win in a fight” contest, against Hal it would be a battle of wills. And, Steve has will power.

Cass, I understood what you meant.
Not sure if I should worry about that…

Cap got dragged back a bit by being dead, I think. And the demos of this blog seem to run more anti-Rebirth than most other online fora.

I believe any of these characters could potentially defeat any of the others, given the right story. Squirrel Girl beat Dr. Doom once, didn’t she?
